The municipality of Heidenau’s forest and moorland landscape provides a setting for recreation close by. The Heidenau holiday centre is located within this landscape; its grounds cover around 35 hectares. This brings together activities centred on the landscape and a specific accommodation option, particularly if you include the cycling route in your plans. If you choose your accommodation first, you can decide between pitches and holiday homes, then plan your other interests around that choice.

Cycling in Heidenau

The cycling route in Heidenau runs alongside the Wedding Forest, which is also on the Heidenau section of the Hamburg–Bremen Cycle Route. This section includes a rest area and a glacial erratic known as the “Heidenau Giant”, which is associated with the cycling route near Heidenau. The Hamburg–Bremen Cycle Route also passes farms with fieldstone walls near Heidenau. Along the route over the Büntberg, you can enjoy a view of the Dohrener Heide. This gives you two different points of reference for planning your ride: the rest area offers a specific place to take a break; the section over the Büntberg is the choice for views of the heath. A cobblestone section of the cycle path was also removed as part of a completed improvement project.

Heath near Dohren and a historical landscape name

The heath near Dohren is part of the Estetal Nature Reserve. The area near Dohren is also part of the “Este, Bötersheimer Heide, Glüsinger Bruch and Osterbruch” Natura 2000 site. Heidenau is also included in the historical landscape name: 18th-century maps referred to the Dohren and Heidenau districts as the “Dohrener Heide”. The historical name therefore covers both districts, while the nature conservation designations mentioned apply to the area near Dohren.

Staying at the Heidenau Holiday Centre

The holiday centre welcomes guests with tents, caravans and motorhomes. For accommodation without a tent or vehicle, holiday homes are available for up to four people. There are 80 pitches in green surroundings on the grounds. As capacity may change, it is advisable to check current availability before travelling. You can choose between the accommodation options based on the type of stay you have planned: your own camping pitch or a holiday home.

Free local maps are available at reception. The holiday centre has a heated swimming pool and also offers pony rides in the forest. Dates and availability for the pony rides may change, so check in advance. Fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and sausages from regional producers are also available on site. The selection may vary; if particular products are important for your stay, ask about their availability beforehand.

Getting to the Holiday Centre

You can reach the holiday centre via the A1, exit 46 Heidenau, followed by about two kilometres of road. As road conditions can change, check the route before setting off.
