Bad Münder am Deister combines a spa and landscape park with Süntel beeches, a historic old town and several designated trails. There is also mini golf on Eternit and felt courses, as well as the “Steinriepen” arboretum, which is open to visitors for Deister Day in May. The different themes give you clear starting points for a stay—from local history to trails and nature.

Park, Trees and Trails

The spa and landscape park in Bad Münder has a graduation tower, built in 1999 based on a historic design and now used for therapeutic purposes. Its year of construction and the design it draws on give the structure its own place in time: the graduation tower dates from 1999 but is based on a historic model. Süntel beeches are also part of the townscape. You can find them both in the town centre and in the spa park, and explore them on foot. This means you can plan your walk around either the town centre or the spa park.

There are four designated, signposted terrain therapy trails for walking and hiking. They range from 2.1 to 8.4 kilometres in length. They start in the spa park or a short distance from the graduation tower and lead to nearby Osterberg. The range of lengths gives you a practical way to compare routes when planning a shorter or longer outing; all the trails also share Osterberg as their destination. The historic Söltjer circular trail takes a different route through Bad Münder’s old town. Route 3 of the Deister Circuit, meanwhile, runs from Völksen to Bad Münder. This means you can choose between terrain therapy trails leading to Osterberg, a circular trail through the old town and a route from Völksen to Bad Münder.

Old Town and Everyday History

The old town features restored half-timbered houses, medieval lanes and remains of the old town wall. These different traces bring local history to life in the buildings, the layout of the lanes and the remains of the former fortifications. At the Bürgerhaus, built in 1752, a cobbler’s workshop, an old smoke kitchen and a parlour illustrate life more than 150 years ago. Crafts and domestic life thus complement the history reflected in the historic townscape.

Mini Golf and the Arboretum

In Bad Münder you can play mini golf on Eternit and felt courses; high-level competitions are regularly held at the world championship course. Check current availability before visiting. The “Steinriepen” arboretum is open to visitors every year for Deister Day in May. Guided tours can be arranged outside this opening period. The visiting arrangements therefore differ: the annual May event is a useful point of reference for the arboretum, while a guided tour must be arranged outside its opening period.

Culture in the wider destination of Hameln-Pyrmont

In the wider destination of Hameln-Pyrmont, Hameln offers a distinct cultural highlight. The Pied Piper open-air play has been performed annually since 1956 on the terrace of the Hochzeitshaus in Hameln’s old town; performance dates vary by season. The Hameln Museum traces the area’s history from the first signs of settlement to the recent past. Its collection on the Pied Piper of Hamelin is considered probably the largest in the world.
