Tiddische lies in the green valley of the Kleine Aller, between the Südheide and Drömling nature parks. Two specific perspectives are ideal for a stay: the landscape of the Drömling and a cycling tour that reaches Tiddische and continues through Hoitlingen. Local history also comes into view in old forms of the place name, a former school bell tower and the municipal coat of arms.

The Drömling: Between Grassland and Water

The Tiddische Drömling is part of the Northern Drömling Nature Reserve. The landscape there is characterised by extensive, contiguous grassland, criss-crossed by numerous large and small ditches and embankments. The Rimpau ditches have the character of still waters. The nature reserve protects the Drömling FFH area 092 and the Drömling EU Birds Directive site V46.

Local Landmark and History

The former school bell tower is a landmark of Tiddische. Around the year 1000, the place name was recorded as Thiaddagsheshusun; the present-day form developed from the official form Didgesche, used in 1366. The coat of arms also reflects a local story: it depicts a watermill on the Kleine Aller that remained in operation until the late 1950s.

Cycling Tours for Different Distances

One cycling tour runs along the northern edge of Matutschen Forest to Tiddische and continues through Hoitlingen. There, the historic village centre lies on Im Unterdorf; its original circular village layout was abandoned during reconstruction. A 60-kilometre day ride runs from Wolfsburg to the border villages of Böckwitz and Zicherie and is largely flat. Another cycling tour follows the route of the former inner-German border, combining cycling with regional history.

The cycling network in the Gifhorn district includes around 700 kilometres of recreational cycle routes, plus around 550 kilometres of everyday routes with connecting sections. The kilometre figures may be updated. Around 400 signposted junctions can be combined to plan individual cycling routes. This brings together a specific tour through Tiddische and Hoitlingen and broader regional planning options, without implying that the figures describe the route of any single tour.

Gifhorn as a Broader Travel Destination

The wider travel destination of Gifhorn district includes heathland, forests, moorland, rivers and lakes; the Drömling is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. For more nature-focused activities, the district has themed hiking trails and nature trails. The International Wind and Watermill Museum Gifhorn features 13 full-size, original mills from around the world. Regional menus feature asparagus, blueberries, Heidschnucke lamb and heath potatoes; regional produce can be experienced at farm cafés and farm shops. The Gifhorn district offers travellers a wide range of perspectives on nature, culture and regional cuisine.
