Dörpen offers a variety of reasons to visit, including the pump track with its circuit, the Dünenbad with slides, swimming lanes and steam baths, and the local heritage house dating from 1906. Together, these offer clearly distinct options focused on exercise, swimming and a connection to local history. You can plan the right mix for your trip based on these interests.

Getting there and transport connections

Dörpen is a transport hub between the Ems, the coastal canal and the Münster–Emden railway line. For specific journeys, check the connections and timetables for your travel dates before finalising your arrival and onward travel.

The pump track on Rägertstraße

The pump track circuit on Rägertstraße features numerous rollers and banked turns. It can be ridden on bicycles, skateboards, longboards, inline skates or scooters. If you include the pump track in your day’s plans, choosing your equipment is a practical consideration: several types of wheeled equipment are suitable for the circuit. The rollers and banked turns define the track’s layout, making this activity very different from the swimming lanes and slides at the Dünenbad.

Swimming and slides at the Dünenbad

At the Dünenbad in Dörpen, the double-rider tube slide is 69 metres long, 17 metres longer than the 52-metre turbo slide. There is also a whirlpool, two steam baths and underwater massages. For swimming, there are three 25-metre lanes; the swimming area is 1.80 metres deep. Toddlers have a separate pool. This lets you consider the slides, lanes and other bathing facilities as distinct options. The pool also has a wheelchair-accessible changing room with a rollator and wheelchair, as well as lockable lockers.

A connection to local history

The Dörpen local heritage house dates from 1906. Its year of construction gives the local attractions a historical dimension that differs from the leisure activities at the pump track and the Dünenbad.

The Emsland as an additional touring area

In the wider Emsland travel region, Hümmling Nature Park covers around 580 square kilometres in the northeastern part of the Emsland district. Cycling and hiking trails pass through the nature park, with information points along the way, and lead past historic sites, megalithic tombs and Clemenswerth Baroque Palace. The Crane Trail runs about 2.5 kilometres into Theikenmeer Nature Reserve; the return journey follows the same route, making a total of around five kilometres. Along the Crane Trail, specific viewpoints include a viewing platform with panoramic views of Lake Theikenmeer and the Wehmer Dose moorland, as well as a bird-watching hut on the lakeshore.

For cycling trips in the wider Emsland travel region, there is also the Emsland Route. This 395-kilometre circular route passes through five landscapes: Northern Ems Valley, Hümmling, Bourtanger Moor, Hasetal and Southern Emsland. The route is very well signposted, mostly flat, paved and traffic-free, and connects 19 towns. Any town in the Emsland along the route can serve as a starting or finishing point. The route therefore offers a regional planning framework that differs in scale and character from the individual leisure activities in Dörpen.
