Odisheim combines a memorial to a medieval pilgrimage chapel with the 10,000-square-metre MORI Garden. The Hadeln Canal is another attraction: its fishing stretch runs through Odisheim from Otterndorf to Bad Bederkesa. These three themes give the destination a distinctive character—garden design and history alongside a named stretch for anglers. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Odisheim, you can first decide whether a garden visit, the chapel’s history or fishing on the canal will shape your stay.

MORI Garden: Park, Garden Advice and Rules

The MORI Garden covers 10,000 square metres and features sun- and shade-loving perennials, rhododendrons, camellias, a pond and rare trees. It is set in a typical marsh landscape between the Elbe and Weser, near the Hadeln Canal and on the L144 state road in Odisheim. The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset; check the opening arrangements again before travelling. Dogs are permitted on a lead; check the lead requirement before your visit as well. From April to September, the Oste Garden Academy holds monthly gardening advice sessions on the grounds. As recurring dates may change, it is worth checking the current schedule in advance. Private events in the garden are possible by prior arrangement. Photoshoots with a flowering backdrop are also an option, but require prior agreement.

St. Joost: Pilgrimage Chapel and Memorial Stone

The St. Joost memorial stone marks the site of a former chapel in Odisheim. It was a medieval pilgrimage chapel dedicated to Saint Jodocus and was first mentioned in 1367. Pilgrims from many cities in northern Germany visited it. The chapel was demolished in 1541 after the Reformation. In 1998, Stinstedt and Odisheim jointly erected the memorial stone at the former site. The memorial there thus spans two periods: the medieval history of pilgrimage and the later, jointly installed memorial.

Hadeln Canal: Fishing Stretch Through Odisheim

The fishing section of the Hadeln Canal runs from Otterndorf via Odisheim to Bad Bederkesa. Public moorings along the canal provide access for fishing. Check local access and fishing regulations before fishing. The two activities involve quite different planning: the garden has daily opening hours and a lead requirement, while the canal requires you to consider public moorings and local fishing regulations.

Cuxhaven: Wadden Sea and Coastal Landscapes

The wider Cuxhaven destination has a particular focus on the Wadden Sea and coastal landscapes. The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Centre Cuxhaven offers three floors of information about the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site and the Cuxhaven coastal heathlands. The visitor centre’s nature tours offer opportunities to experience mudflats, salt marshes, geest cliffs and coastal heathland. The Kugelbake is also in Cuxhaven: this 29-metre-high wooden structure marks where the Elbe ends and the North Sea begins.
