The organ in Nordholz’s “Zum guten Hirten” church has 700 pipes—a specific musical detail to enjoy during your stay. The parish welcomes visitors to a wide range of activities, including church services and informal social afternoons. If you would like to attend a particular activity, check the date in advance.

Aviation History at the Aeronauticum

In a museum hall measuring approximately 1,000 m², the Aeronauticum presents the exhibition areas “Lighter-than-Air Flight” and “Heavier-than-Air Flight.” Its permanent exhibitions explore the history of airships and the historical and technical development of naval and maritime aviation since 1913. The area devoted to naval and maritime aviation was redesigned in July 2021. The topics range from airships to maritime and military aviation history.

The Aeronauticum can be reached by train on the Cuxhaven–Bremerhaven line, getting off at Nordholz station. If you choose to travel this way, check the timetable for your travel date.

Culture and Coastal Scenery on the Wurster North Sea Coast

The wider destination of the Wurster North Sea Coast offers further distinctive cultural and natural attractions. The origins of St. George’s Church in Spieka date back to 1319. In Cappel, St. Peter and Paul’s Church is known for its 17th-century organ, made by Arp Schnitger. The villages offer different historical points of interest: Spieka’s church has deep historical roots, while Cappel is home to the 17th-century organ.

The Midlum Mill adds the history of milling to the picture. It is a Dutch windmill with a gallery and is one of the few still-operational windmills of its kind in the district of Cuxhaven. The Meinecke miller family built it in 1857 with two meal-grinding units and a roller mill. Baking days and events are regularly held at the mill; check the latest dates before your visit.

At the Curious Shell Museum in Wremen, more than 3,000 shells and snail shells from around the world showcase the diversity of nature. The exhibits are not organized according to scientific categories; instead, they have names inspired by wordplay and the variety of their shapes. The museum focuses on natural forms, while the Aeronauticum and the mill offer technical and historical themes.

The landscape is also part of the wider destination of the Wurster North Sea Coast, which has four green beaches. Alongside its cultural sites, the area therefore offers coastal scenery as a destination in its own right. At the Spieka-Neufeld cutter harbor, you can watch shrimp cutters set out on fishing trips or return; by the water, you can go for walks and watch birds and ships. From the Cappel-Neufeld birdwatching tower, the view extends across the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site and the adjoining salt marshes.
