Archaeological finds, a circular trail following traces of a Celtic fortification, and the natural landscape of the Glauberg give Glauburg a clear travel focus. Glauberg and Stockheim are districts of Glauburg; the cultural highlights are located in different places. When planning a stay, you can first decide whether your main interest is the Celtic World, historic architecture, nature or cycling.

A circular trail with steep climbs

The Celtic World Trail is a circular route about 2.2 kilometres long on an unpaved path. It leads up to the plateau of the Glaubberg, where traces of the Celtic fortification and remnants from the Middle Ages can be found. The distance is only one part of the planning: some sections of the ascent and descent are very steep, and the trail is not accessible. Check local conditions before setting out and take these limitations into account when deciding. The distance alone therefore does not tell you what the trail is like; its slopes and accessibility are also part of the choice.

Archaeological finds at the Glauberg

The Celtic World at the Glauberg focuses on finds from the Glauberg. Its museum displays archaeological finds from three graves of Celtic rulers discovered at the Glauberg. These include original finds from the Glaubberg, including settlement finds that offer insights into the world of the Celts at the Glaubberg around 400 BC. The exhibition thus brings together grave finds and traces of settlement, offering a way to explore the site's Celtic history.

The Glauberg Museum presents a broader historical picture: its archaeological finds include Stone Age tools and the discovery of the Celtic Prince of the Glauberg; its scope extends to local life in the 19th century. Visits are possible by prior appointment only. If you plan to visit this museum, be sure to arrange your visit in advance.

Art Deco in Stockheim

The Catholic parish church of St. Judas Thaddäus stands in Stockheim. Built in 1927, it is a pure example of Art Deco architecture. This brings different historical themes into focus in Glauburg: archaeological finds from the Celtic period, local history from the 19th century at the Glauberg Museum, and a church built in the 20th century. For architecture enthusiasts, this clearly defined style offers another point of interest when planning a trip.

Nature and cycling

The natural landscape of the Glauberg includes orchards, meadows for insects, old domestic animal breeds, shady forests and unpaved trails. Storks and beavers are also part of the area; opportunities to observe wildlife vary. Alongside its archaeological themes, the landscape and its habitats are also a focus.

For getting around by bike, the Vulkanradweg is another option: it runs for 34 kilometres through the Wetterau district to Glauberg railway station and passes through places including Stockheim. Stockheim and Glauberg are connected to local public transport. If you want to combine cycling and rail travel, check the current timetables.
