Bringhausen combines village history with a specific starting point for excursions into the National Park. In the center of the village stands the Protestant church with its distinctive palm altar; the Kirchweg National Park entrance is directly associated with the village. You can therefore tailor your stay to two different interests: the history of Bringhausen and hiking or cycling excursions in the National Park.

The church and local history

The church and the former school were dismantled in the former valley settlement and rebuilt on Daudenberg in Neu-Bringhausen. This relocation is part of Bringhausen’s history; the palm altar also draws attention to a distinctive detail of the church. Anyone interested in local and architectural history will find a specific point of reference in the rebuilding of these two buildings. The church’s distinctive furnishings and the history of the settlement thus stand side by side, without the need for a long list of additional sights.

Kirchweg and excursions into the National Park

Bringhausen serves as a starting point for hikers and cyclists taking excursions into the National Park. The Kirchweg entrance is about a one-kilometre walk from the Edertal-Bringhausen Mitte bus stop. This distance helps you gauge the walk between the bus stop and the entrance; check local transport information before travelling. For specific tours, you should also take account of route conditions and signage on site. This lets you plan your excursion around the actual route you choose, rather than simply treating the village as your starting point.

Edertal: more culture and nature

The wider destination of Edertal offers other, varied experiences. In Giflitz, a district of Edertal, a historic village trail with 17 stations explores the area’s history and distinctive features; it opened in 2017. In the district of Mehlen, visitors can pan for Eder gold under expert guidance. Check in advance when this activity is available. The Ederauen Experience Trail runs through a varied river landscape between Mehlen and Giflitz and invites visitors to hike and cycle.

The three activities offer different experiences: the village trail explores local history, gold panning is a guided activity, and the Ederauen Experience Trail combines hiking or cycling with a river landscape. The Schwimmkaute and Krautwiese nature reserves are also part of the Edertal area. Both are former gravel extraction sites that have developed into water-rich habitats.

In Edertal, cycling options range from routes along Lake Edersee and sporty trails through the low mountain landscape to everyday routes between the districts. Hiking options include both relaxing walks and challenging tours. This distinction can help you weigh up the activity you want and the level of difficulty that suits you; your specific route choice should take local conditions into account.

The Edersee Wildlife Park with its falconry centre and a high ropes course in the Eschelberg Adventure Forest are located in Hemfurth-Edersee, a district of Edertal. The Eder Dam is a prominent structure in the region and was built between 1908 and 1914. The illuminated dam wall is an impressive sight, especially in the evening. Also in Hemfurth-Edersee, the Edersee Visitor Centre offers guests personal advice, digital information walls and an interactive terminal with information about the region.
