Stormbruch lies between the Lake Diemelsee reservoir and the mountains of the Upland, with a clear focus on hiking. Three official circular trails, a longer hiking option and a multifaceted church history offer different points of interest when choosing where to visit. When looking for a hotel, it is therefore helpful to consider whether you want to include short loops, a longer day hike or activities offered by the wider Diemelsee destination in your travel plans.

Comparing the three circular trails

All three official circular trails start at the central Schulweg car park. ST3 leads to Koppen, is 4.9 km long and is rated easy to moderate. ST4 runs around BĂĽlsenberg, is 4.5 km long and is easy. ST5 goes around Hagen, measures 4.1 km and is also easy. This makes ST5 the shortest loop and ST3 the longest; ST4 falls between them in distance. ST3 is also the only one rated easy to moderate. Check the local signage before setting out, as route details may change.

Local options for walks and hikes also include rest benches, shelters and a Kneipp treading facility for walking through water. The benches and shelters add places to pause along the hiking routes, while the treading facility offers another water-based activity. When choosing, you can therefore consider not only the route but also whether rest stops or water treading are important to you.

A longer hiking option and activities on the water

At 15 km, the Diemelsee Panorama Green Trail is a considerably longer option than the three circular routes. From above Stormbruch, it offers views across the lake and the surrounding mountains. The routes of 4.1 to 4.9 km therefore contrast with a 15 km hike. Check current route information in advance, as the route and conditions may change.

Lake Diemelsee, close to Stormbruch, also offers water sports. This extends the range of activities beyond hiking. If you are interested in both, you can weigh water sports and the local loops as different focuses for your trip.

More destinations in the wider Diemelsee destination

In the wider Diemelsee destination, the Diemelsteig trail passes directly through Heringhausen and around Lake Diemelsee. The SeebrĂĽcke/Hohes Rad lido is also located directly in Heringhausen. These two attractions may be relevant if you are also considering the wider Diemelsee destination in your plans.

Church history across several building phases

A former church in Stormbruch is documented in 1526 as a branch church of Heringhausen. It was destroyed in the village fire of 1784, rebuilt as a half-timbered church in 1792 and replaced by a new building in 1959. The sequence of fire, reconstruction and replacement traces several chapters in the local church’s history. The village bell tower houses one bell from 1795 and two bells from 1968. The church and bell tower thus reflect different periods in the village’s history.
