The listed “Old School” is the landmark that defines Bermuthshain’s townscape. The historic building houses the Muna Museum Grebenhain. The wooden ski jump, built in 1970, is also one of the village’s notable attractions. Bermuthshain and the wider destination of Grebenhain offer a range of opportunities for hiking and winter activities.

Old School and Muna Museum

The Muna Museum Grebenhain opened in May 2011 in Bermuthshain’s historic “Old School.” It is dedicated to the Hartmannshain Air Ammunition Depot in the Oberwald near Grebenhain, which operated from 1936 to 1945. It is the first museum in Germany to address the history of up to 370 ammunition depots operated by the German Wehrmacht during the Nazi era.

The exhibition tells the history of the Muna through exhibits, historical photographs, models and films. It commemorates Ukrainian women forced to work there between 1943 and 1945 and also covers the site’s later use. This includes industrial development, the NATO supply depot during the Cold War and the removal of ammunition. The topics therefore range from the history of the facility to its use after the Second World War.

By prior arrangement, the Muna Museum can offer guided tours for closed groups on a date of their choice. The museum is signposted at the turn-off to Bermuthshain on the B 275 and within the village from the main road.

Viewpoint and Höllerich

Bermuthshain’s wooden ski jump now serves as a viewpoint overlooking the municipality of Grebenhain. At Höllerich, below the listed ski jump, it is possible to get married outdoors. Availability depends on the municipality’s booking arrangements. The viewpoint and Höllerich thus offer two different ways to experience the area: spending time outdoors and having a wedding ceremony in a special setting.

Hiking Trails in the Wider Destination of Grebenhain

The WeiĂźer Stein Trail runs around Bermuthshain and passes a viewpoint and a former ski jump below the WeiĂźer Stein. In the wider destination of Grebenhain, it is a hiking trail directly connected to Bermuthshain. The Kleekopf Trail offers a different local setting: it loops around Grebenhain and passes the Katzenteich pond and the Oberwald barbecue area.

For a longer hike through the municipality, the Vulkanring and Bonifatius Route are further options. Both pass through the 15 villages of the wider destination of Grebenhain. On the Kleekopf Trail, it is advisable to check the local trail markers; conditions on hiking trails can also change.

Guided tours also explore the region’s history. In the wider destination of Grebenhain, the Förderverein MUNA-Museum Grebenhain e. V. offers guided hikes and tours of the former Hartmannshain Air Ammunition Depot site throughout the year. The offer is aimed at interested groups, such as clubs and school classes, and is organised by prior arrangement.
