Dietzenbach combines expansive views with outdoor art, historic sites and opportunities to stay active. The observation tower on Wingertsberg is a prominent landmark; there are also walking trails, museums and parks, each with its own distinctive focus. You can tailor your stay to whatever interests you most.
Panoramic views from Wingertsberg
The observation tower stands on the 198-metre-high Wingertsberg, the highest point in Offenbach district. Its viewing platform is 21 metres high. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views across the town of Dietzenbach, the surrounding area and the Frankfurt skyline. The difference in elevation between Wingertsberg and the platform gives this viewpoint its distinctive perspective: first, its prominent location, then the view across the town and its surroundings.
Nature and orientation outdoors
The RuDi circular route passes through extensive and varied natural areas. Numerous animal and plant species can be spotted along the way, and the landscape also provides space to relax. The Wasserwerkspark offers a different way to explore a topic: information boards explain water protection, water extraction, water treatment and water distribution. The park also features a 4.60-metre-high column of water, a birch avenue and several places to sit. A visit therefore combines nature and relaxation with information about water.
Discover art and history
The SkulpTouren Park along the Biberbach features works with a wide range of titles: “The Dream” by Ernst Stark, “Furniture and Cake” by Karsten Bott, “Romeo and Juliet Complex Hut” by Marko Lehanka, and a “Still Life” by Margit Seiler. The artworks are intended not only to be viewed and touched, but also invite visitors to sit on and use them. Here, art in the park is more than an exhibit: it is also an object to be used.
The Dietzenbach History Trail is part of the Rhine-Main Regional Park Route. At every stop, a QR code provides access to an audio guide. You can also explore old Dietzenbach on a historical walk, which takes in the Protestant church and vicarage, as well as listed half-timbered houses and farmsteads. The old railway station, dating from 1898, is outside the historic town centre. The Protestant Christuskirche was built in its present form in 1753/54; large sections of Schäfergasse are protected as a historic ensemble.
Another landmark of historical interest is RussenhĂĽtte. Numerous cremation graves dating from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age were excavated there, and have been dated to around 1000 BC. These archaeological finds add a much earlier chapter to the history of the historic buildings.
Museums and their focus
Since the 1970s, the Dietzenbach Fire Brigade Museum has had an extensive collection of historic firefighting equipment. The old vehicle hall displays large equipment, historic fire engines and portable pumps. A second exhibition area features firefighting exhibits from around the world, particularly from France, Belgium and Canada, as well as an extensive collection of vehicle models.
The Historical Museum offers themed tours, supplemented by craft activities, scavenger hunts, demonstrations of museum exhibits, films and multimedia. The fire brigade’s history and the themed museum tours therefore have different focuses. Exhibits and educational activities may change, so check the latest information before your visit.
Parks and activities
Hessentagspark is a popular destination for families. Its large playground has a giant swing for older children, while younger children can enjoy a sandpit. There is also a mini-golf course in the park. As park facilities may change, it is a good idea to check the latest information before your visit.
Other opportunities to get active cater to different age groups. The balance trail on the disused Ober-Rodener-StraĂźe challenges children, teenagers and adults to create their own agility course using beams, wooden blocks and stepping stones. If you prefer bodyweight training, the outdoor fitness park has a calisthenics station with bars, parallel bars and ladders. Alongside walks, you can choose from different ways to get active around town, including agility exercises and strength training.
