Eschborn brings together a variety of cultural themes: historic buildings, collections on the town’s history, art in public spaces and events throughout the year. You can tailor your stay to suit your interests, whether you prefer history and exhibitions, outdoor art or a festival.

History and Art at the Town Museum

One notable historic building is the Old Eschborn Mill on the Westerbach. It is a cultural monument featuring a large half-timbered gatehouse. A mill at this site is documented as early as 1405; a new building was constructed in 1692. These two dates give the mill a long historical context, while the gatehouse is a distinctive architectural feature of the monument.

The town museum and town archive are located at central Eschenplatz. The museum’s first floor focuses on archaeological finds and medieval exhibits, including Eschborn’s tower castle and the Battle of Eschborn in 1389. The second floor is devoted to painter Hanny Franke, who lived in Eschborn in the 1960s and 1970s. Regularly changing exhibitions complement these collection highlights. The museum also has a hall where concerts and talks are held; the programme may vary.

Sculpture Route and Sculpture Park

You can encounter art in Eschborn outside the museum, too: the sculpture route runs throughout Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt as a network with various intersections. Depending on where you are, the views shift between Frankfurt’s skyline and the Taunus. This change in perspective is one of the distinctive features of this artistic landscape.

Another place to experience art outdoors is the Eschborn-Niederhöchstadt Sculpture Park, established in 2010. Artworks acquired on a permanent basis are displayed throughout its spacious grounds, which include lawns, meadows and perennial beds. The park also hosts cultural events and exhibitions. While the sculpture route forms a network across the town, the park centres on a landscaped setting with permanently installed works.

Festivals and Seasonal Activities

The Eschenfest takes place over a weekend in May at Eschenplatz in the town centre. This recurring town festival offers an extensive programme of music, cabaret and activities for children, as well as a large market. The exact dates may vary from year to year, so check the schedule if you would like to plan your trip around the festival.

A Christmas market is also held at Eschenplatz on the second weekend of Advent. It features stalls run by associations from Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt, as well as performances by choirs and music groups. The programme may vary. Unlike the May Eschenfest, the Christmas market offers a seasonal reason to visit during Advent; check the latest dates and programme details when planning your trip.

For water-based recreation, the Wiesenbad outdoor pool has a multi-purpose pool with 25-metre lanes and a non-swimmer area, a toddlers’ pool and a water playground. The outdoor pool’s opening season may vary. The Wiesenbad’s sauna area includes an outdoor log-cabin sauna, a steam bath and a sanarium; operating details may also change. If you would like to include a visit in your stay, check the latest conditions beforehand.

A Specific Cycling Option

The “Art Safari for All Ages” cycling tour starts at Eschborn railway station, Schwalbacher Straße 4. The route may change, so check it before setting off. Together with the museum, sculpture route and park, the tour offers another way to explore Eschborn’s art, while the festivals and seasonal outdoor pool provide other possible focuses for your stay.
