Linsengericht can be explored on several levels: the history of everyday technology, insights into village life in the past, and trails through a landscape shaped over centuries by standard fruit trees. There are several different things to focus on when planning your visit. You can explore museums and historic sites, or set aside time for circular hiking trails and viewpoints.

Technology and village life in Altenhaßlau

The Radio Museum in the Old School and the Village Museum in the tithe barn offer different perspectives. Since 1998, the Radio Museum has displayed and demonstrated radios, record players, tape recorders, televisions and measuring equipment. The devices date from 1923 to 1990. Most of the more than 300 exhibits are in working order. The collection thus offers a look at different types of technical equipment and the periods they span.

The Village Museum shows what life in the village was like in the past. Its exhibits cover agriculture and wheelwrighting, knitting, blacksmithing, shoemaking and baking, as well as the kitchen and laundry room, and the living room and bedroom. The tools and everyday objects date from around 1900 to 1960. Together, these areas tell the story of crafts, work and home life—a different way of exploring the past than through a collection of technical devices.

Chapel and historic traces

The Marienkapelle (Chapel of St. Mary), consecrated in 1349, stands in the center of Eidengesäß. In the 16th century, it was given the name Sankt-Veits-Kapelle (St. Vitus Chapel). Another place to learn about local history is the local history museum at Geisbergstraße 2 in Eidengesäß. It displays historic craft and household objects. Tours for individuals are available by telephone appointment; admission is free. Confirm the details by phone before your visit.

Old stones can also be found in the Gerichtswald forest and the adjoining agricultural areas. They may offer clues about former property ownership, boundary lines, historic events and living conditions. These possible clues therefore extend beyond individual buildings to include the landscape itself.

Circular trails and views

There are four signposted circular hiking trails in the municipality. A particularly scenic spot is the elevated area known as “Am Rosengarten” near Eidengesäß: from there, Circular Trails 1 and 2 offer wide-ranging views across the Kinzig Valley to Gelnhausen. In good visibility, the view extends as far as the slopes of the Taunus. The long-distance views therefore depend on visibility conditions.

The premium Spessartbogen hiking trail runs through the Linsengericht district, from Breitenborner Höhe to Krötenweiher pond near Waldrode. This is another named hiking option in addition to the four circular trails. If you plan to hike the Spessartbogen, check the local route information before setting out. In the Gerichtswald forest, the RWL 2 circular trail also features changing art installations: pottery objects, wooden sculptures, stone cairns and figures made from various forest materials.
