In Weilrod, experiences range from hiking trails and interactive stations to a historic building and a chapel. To help you choose, consider the different highlights: Would you like to explore a stretch of trail, learn about the history of energy or visit a cultural site?
Trails and Active Experiences
The Weilrod section of the Weiltal Trail starts at the Landstein ruins and then runs through the valley between Altweilnau and Neuweilnau. For the full route: in the wider Hochtaunus travel region, the Weiltal Trail starts near the source of the Weil, at the “Rotes Kreuz” car park near Schmitten. It follows the Weil through Weilrod and continues for a total of 47.5 kilometres to Weilburg on the Lahn. This helps you distinguish the local section from the longer route.
Another option is the approximately five-kilometre Energy Adventure Tour in the Weilrod wind farm. Information boards, play stations and quiz stations provide information about the history of energy use. The focus here is on a specific topic, and the stations also provide practical stopping points along the tour.
At the Neuweilnau barbecue area, the barefoot path is part of the Path of the Senses along the Weil. You can experience a variety of surfaces there with bare feet. Another hiking option brings you closer to animals: TierbrĂĽcke offers guided hikes with donkeys and ponies in the Usinger Land region. Confirm current booking details directly with the provider.
At the Cratzenbach quarry, a slate wall just under ten metres high serves as a climbing training area. Its slope makes it especially suitable for beginners. Check the current access conditions before visiting.
History and Craftsmanship
The Landstein church ruins reopened in summer 2024 after renovation work to preserve the historic walls. As this information refers to the reopening at that time, check the current visitor regulations before your visit. The Marienkapelle (Mary’s Chapel) stands in Hasselbach and was built in 1892 in a historicist style. It is listed as a cultural monument for historical and artistic reasons.
Weilrod also offers a practical activity: pottery courses, events, birthday parties, and active and creative holidays can be booked at the Taunustöpferei pottery workshop in Weilrod-Niederlauken. If this activity is important to your plans, confirm current availability directly with the workshop.
A Regional Excursion in the Hochtaunus
In the wider Hochtaunus travel region, the Hessenpark open-air museum is located in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunuskreis district. A family trail shows children and adults together how people used to live, dwell and work. To get to the museum, bus route 63 connects Wehrheim and Neu-Anspach/Anspach station with the Neu-Anspach/Anspach Hessenpark stop; check current public transport information before travelling.
Six charging stations for e-bikes are available directly at the open-air museum. There is also a bicycle service station where visitors can carry out minor repairs and maintenance themselves. These regional facilities are part of Hessenpark in the Hochtaunus, not facilities in Weilrod; check their current status before travelling.
