Künzell offers experiences ranging from the start of construction on a Romanesque church around 1150 to a themed journey through seven countries. Church and local history, circular trails, cycling tours, natural attractions and the Sieben Welten Therme offer different options to consider when planning your trip. If you look beyond Künzell to the destination of Fulda, the Rhön in the district of Fulda offers opportunities for hiking and cycling.

Churches, Local History and Views

Construction of the parish church of St. Bartholomew in Dietershausen began around 1150 in the Romanesque style, with a defensive wall and tower. A Gothic side aisle was added around 1473—more than three centuries after construction began. The Dietershausen Sky Viewing Site is 200 metres from the community centre at Bergstraße 2 in Künzell-Dietershausen. Check the current signage if you use this location information on site.

The summit of Florenberg is home to a historic ensemble of buildings, a Calvary group and a fortified church dedicated to Saints Flora and Kilian. The restaurant and beer garden at Der Florenberg offer views of the Rhön peaks. Opening hours may change; check them before planning to stop for a meal.

Teufelsborn, below Waidmannsruh in Pilgerzell, is a natural monument. A memorial stone with an information board has also been erected in Pilgerzell on a forest path between the former quarry and the legendary spring.

Trails and Exercise

Dietershausen has well-marked circular trails with beautiful views. As conditions may change seasonally, check the current trail conditions before setting out. Since spring 2023, the Grezzbachpark in Künzell has had an exercise park for all generations.

The panoramic cycling tour starts and ends at Künzell Town Hall and is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. The Vorderrhön cycling route is suitable for families because of its gentle gradient and trails that mostly avoid busier roads. Conditions on this cycling route may change seasonally; check the current situation before setting out.

The Rhön, Starry Skies and Relaxation

Künzell is associated with the dark night skies of the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve. Low levels of light pollution make the night sky particularly visible there; weather and moonlight affect visibility. The biosphere reserve offers guided stargazing, designated stargazing sites and an astronomical observation platform. If you are planning a guided observation, check the current offerings in advance.

The Sieben Welten Therme & Spa Resort in Künzell offers a themed journey through seven countries across more than 30,000 square metres. Loheland can be explored independently with an audio guide tour. Local visitor arrangements may change, so check the current options in advance.
