A circular trail about three kilometres long and eight information boards give the Reinheimer Teich nature reserve a clear focus on nature. In Reinheim, the local history museum and museum signal box add historic workplaces and railway technology to this perspective; the Hofgut cultural centre provides another highlight.

Nature at Reinheimer Teich

The Reinheimer Teich nature reserve covers about 75 hectares. The circular trail is about three kilometres long and has eight information boards. They cover history, botany, wildlife, birdlife and life in the water. This brings a range of nature-related and informational topics together along one route. A total of 101 bird species have been recorded at Reinheimer Teich, including 64 breeding species. This finding adds a specific insight into birdlife to the landscape perspective.

The Reinheimer Teich nature conservation centre presents nature topics in a different format, hosting exhibitions, lectures and workshops. Around the centre is a nature discovery area with small paths introducing the region’s various habitats. The centre also offers themed walks to explore the wider surroundings. Examples focus on European pond turtles, tree frogs, beavers, birds or plants. The circular trail by the pond, the small paths in the nature discovery area and the walks in the wider surroundings thus each have a distinct focus. The nature conservation centre can be reached by bicycle via the Reinheim–Groß-Zimmern cycle path or the Reinheim–Habitzheim cycle path.

Workplaces and Railway Technology

The Reinheim Local History Museum presents the past century across 14 rooms. On display are historic workplaces belonging to a blacksmith, pharmacist, washerwoman, button maker and weaver. These examples range from different trades to the work of a washerwoman, showcasing a variety of activities as part of the museum visit.

The Reinheim Museum Signal Box was built in 1896. Its technology is still almost entirely preserved and operational. On regular opening days, visitors can take guided tours about railway history and how the historic signal box technology works. This offers two distinct ways to explore history: the workplaces in the local history museum and the almost entirely preserved, operational signal box technology. If you plan to take a tour, check the opening days for your visit.

Culture at the Hofgut

The Hofgut Reinheim cultural centre is housed in a historic building dating from the 14th century. It includes gallery spaces belonging to the Reinheim Cultural Association (Kulturkreis Reinheim e. V.) and an event hall. The Hofgut is often a venue for cultural events, including Reinheim Satire Week, which takes place every year in summer. If you would like to plan your trip around an event like this, check the specific dates. This lets you include an event in your plans without treating it as the same kind of offering as the nature or museum attractions.
