Mörlenbach combines signposted trails with a special railway line and insights into local history. When planning your getaway, you can choose between a hike, the Überwaldbahn railway line and regional cultural attractions. Information on trail length and surface helps you assess the nature trail in particular.

Draisine route along a historic railway line

The solar-powered draisine route covers around 10 kilometres between Mörlenbach and Wald-Michelbach. It follows the Überwaldbahn line, a railway of cultural and historical significance that is listed as a monument and has been closed since 1994. The ride thus offers a connection with the history of the former railway link. If you are planning a ride, check the latest options in advance.

Hiking: consider the length and surface

There are around 125 kilometres of signposted hiking trails in the municipality. The nature trail is 8 kilometres long and takes an estimated 2 to 3 hours to walk. This estimate provides a guide for planning; the actual walking time also depends on your pace.

The surface is an important factor when choosing the nature trail: outside the woodland sections, the trail is accessible with a pushchair. This is not possible in the wooded areas north of Waldsee and in Steinböhl. There, the path can be muddy in places, so sturdy footwear is essential. If you are travelling with a pushchair, leave these woodland sections out of your plans.

The Mörlenbach fruit orchard trail offers a different perspective on the landscape. It passes through traditional orchards and offers panoramic views. The nature trail can be planned in terms of time based on its length and estimated walking time, while the fruit orchard trail focuses on orchards and views. The Bergstraße destination has more hiking and cycling options: the “Wein & Stein” adventure trail in Heppenheim is about 6.9 kilometres long and has around 70 information points. The Burgensteig Bergstraße stretches for 120 kilometres over nine stages; the Geo-Nature Park’s offering also includes more than 30 signposted mountain biking circuits in an interconnected trail network.

Local history and guided explorations

The Protestant church, built in 1950, stands in the centre of Mörlenbach. In Bonsweiher, the museum is housed in the Old School, which has been restored in keeping with heritage conservation requirements. It opened in November 2015 and explores the history of the municipality of Mörlenbach, including former school life, the fire service and leatherworking. These topics offer a broader view of life in the municipality in the past than looking at a single building.

The Weschnitztal Geopark local team offers village tours, hikes and excursions through the landscape. Groups in particular can take a guided tour of Mörlenbach as it was in the past, visit Neolithic burial mounds and explore the landscape. If you would like to include a group activity in your plans, check booking options in advance.
