Wulkow is shaped by its Baroque manor ensemble, but the village church, the Domespace known as the “UFO,” and the castle park offer different ways to explore the town’s history. Art at the studio and cycling-related activities at the Ökospeicher add further points of interest. You can choose to focus your stay on architecture, sculpture or landscape.

Manor Ensemble and Village Church

The Baroque manor ensemble forms the historic center of Wulkow and is a tourist attraction. As of January 1, 2026, the listed ensemble comprises a manor house with a park, a farmyard with a granary, a wheelwright’s workshop and two farm buildings. It was not until Richard Schulz’s renovations in the early 20th century that the Baroque manor house became a castle-like estate. The manor ensemble also includes the listed village church, dating from 1687, and a crypt building with the family coat of arms, built in 1695. Wulkow’s Protestant church contains an altarpiece dating from around 1700. The former orangery belonged to the old castle nursery and was used, among other things, to house exotic potted plants.

Castle Park and Distinctive Architecture

The castle park, around 300 years old, has a protected collection of trees. The park is also home to a German war cemetery, which was expanded in 1977. Wulkow is also home to the largest wild pear tree in the state.

The Domespace, also known as the “UFO” in Wulkow, resembles a flying saucer. It was originally designed as an office and seminar center for the Ökospeicher association. Its architectural style provides a different counterpoint to the Baroque history of the manor ensemble.

Art, Ă–kospeicher and Cycling

Jannulis Tembridis’s studio produces sculptures in stone, marble and terracotta; works can be purchased there. If you are planning to buy a work as part of your trip, check the current options in advance. Since 2017, the Ökospeicher has hosted the book talk “I’m reading something you’re not reading.”

There is an e-bike charging station at the Ökospeicher; check its availability before your trip. A section of the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route, around 10 km long, is suggested for cycling or skating. The “Lebus and Back” tour also goes to the eco-village of Wulkow near Booßen. Route details may change, so it is advisable to check the current route before setting off.

Lebus: Another Regional Perspective

In the wider Lebus destination, the “Steppe Flora in the Lebuser Land” Natura Trail is a 36 km circular cycling route. It connects four European-designated Special Areas of Conservation (SACs): the Oderberge Lebus Nature Reserve, the Zeisigberg Nature Reserve, the Preister Gorge and the Mallnow slopes along the Oder. On its section near Lebus, the trail follows the Oder-Neiße Cycle Route to the Podelzig-Klessin exit. From the castle hill in Lebus, there are panoramic views along the Oder and far into Poland. Below the castle hill is the parish church: it was rebuilt in 1806, served as the town church until 1945 and, after being destroyed in the Second World War, was rebuilt in its present size in 1954. It is considered a landmark of the lower town. In spring, the first spring pheasants’ eyes bloom on the Oder slopes near Mallnow, followed later by horned violets and cowslips.
