Spreenhagen combines architectural history with a cycling route through the town and activities on the water. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth considering the different focuses: architectural and local history, raft trips or cycling. Markgrafpieske, Lebbin and Hartmannsdorf represent different destinations within the town and its immediate surroundings.

Church and Thatched House: Two Historical Perspectives

The three-aisled church in Markgrafpieske was built from sandstone and brick in the Neo-Gothic style between 1896 and 1898. “Three-aisled” describes the division of the church interior into three aisles; this design can be considered a distinct architectural aspect alongside style and materials. A much older historical destination is the approximately 300-year-old Thatched House in the municipal district of Lebbin, a former shepherd’s dwelling that now houses a gallery and a picture-framing workshop. Together, the two destinations reflect different periods and uses: a church built in the late 19th century with a precise date, and a considerably older building now used for cultural and craft activities.

Local History at the Markgrafpieske Local Heritage House

In the immediate surroundings of Spreenhagen, the Markgrafpieske Local Heritage House displays furnishings from Markgrafpieske and the surrounding area. Old documents and photographs tell the story of the town. The Local Heritage House is open by appointment. Book readings and slide shows are held regularly; visitors are asked to register by telephone.

Water Activities on the MĂĽggelspree

Gasthaus Paesch offers water touring and raft trips on the Old MĂĽggelspree. The inn also offers daily guided raft trips on the MĂĽggelspree for up to 16 people. Homemade potato salad and meat patties or kettle goulash, as well as drinks, are served on board. Food is therefore part of the trip; check the availability of trips and the current food selection before you travel.

Cycling Route and a Break on the Spreeradweg

The Oder-Spree Tour is a cycling route that passes through Spreenhagen. Nearby, in the municipal district of Hartmannsdorf, Holly´s Galerie Café is located directly on the Spreeradweg. It is a place to take a break, with freshly prepared coffee and homemade cakes. The route through Spreenhagen and the place to stop on the Spreeradweg are two specific ways to include cycling in your stay.

Oder-Spree in a Wider Context

The wider Oder-Spree travel destination offers additional regional highlights: Lake ScharmĂĽtzel covers approximately 1,200 hectares and is around 30 metres deep. The five-hectare Neuzelle Baroque Garden was restored according to original plans from the 1758 abbey atlas; Baroque avenues, water features and a terrace complex define its layout. These examples illustrate the range of waterscapes and historic gardens within the wider travel destination.
