Three lakes shape the trails around Müllrose: the Three Lakes Trail starts and ends at the market square, while paddling tours lead from Lake Kleiner Müllroser See to Lake Katharinensee. The town also has buildings with a long history and opportunities to explore from the water or on foot. For planning your trip, the different routes are especially helpful: from a circular trail by the lakes to the award-winning hiking trail through the Schlaubetal.

Along the water or through the Schlaubetal

The Three Lakes Trail is around 6 kilometres long and runs alongside the lakes Großer Müllroser See, Kleiner Müllroser See and Katharinensee. If you would prefer a different loop, there is a 9-kilometre circular hiking trail around Lake Großer Müllroser See; it starts at Müllrose market square. The two routes differ in length and starting point, so you can choose according to how far you want to walk.

For a longer hike, the 25-kilometre Schlaubetal hiking trail leads through the Schlaubetal from Müllrose to Lake Wirchensee. The German Hiking Association has certified it as a quality hiking trail. Various other routes through the Schlaubetal also start in Müllrose. The route details make it possible to choose according to distance and destination, without combining them into a single loop.

Paddling, boats and the lido

An approximately one-and-a-half-hour paddling tour for the whole family leads from Lake Kleiner Müllroser See via the Oder-Spree Canal to Lake Katharinensee and through the Katharinengraben. The Schlaubetal boat rental offers guided paddling tours with transport; as the options may change, we recommend checking with the provider beforehand. If you would like to rent a boat yourself, Marina Schlaubetal in Müllrose has kayaks, canoes, rowing boats, motorboats that do not require a licence, cabin boats and dragon boats. Check the latest rental options before your trip as well.

The lido on the western shore is geared towards water sports and has a sandy beach. Check its seasonal opening dates before you arrive. Three fish-rich lakes and the Oder-Spree Canal also offer good conditions for fishing. This gives you a choice of different activities for days by the water, without requiring the same route or starting point.

Buildings and town history

Among the older buildings are the Protestant Church, first built in 1275 in the style of a hall church, and the Ackerbürgerhaus (Yeoman’s House). It is the oldest house in town, dates from 1689 and is now a listed building. The Bürgerhaus (Citizens’ House) was built in 1696, listed in the 1990s and subsequently extensively restored. The different dates offer a glimpse into distinct chapters of Müllrose’s architectural history.

More recent landmarks also shape the townscape: the historic fire station with its wooden hose-drying tower was built in 1925. The 17.5-metre-high Gildebaum was inaugurated in September 2017 and is considered the largest of its kind in Brandenburg. Since its major renovation in 2003, the Schützenhaus has served as a cultural venue for residents and associations, as well as hosting town events.

The local history museum is located in the Haus des Gastes, which also houses the Schlaubetal Tourist Information Centre. The museum is currently closed due to construction work. Its permanent exhibitions feature numerous exhibits exploring the history of the town of three lakes over several centuries.

Events and getting around

The Müllrose Lake Concerts take place along the lakeside promenade; the Müllrose Music Association (Musikverein Müllrose e.V.) traditionally opens the season on Whit Monday. The Müllrose Christmas Magic event is traditionally held on the first weekend of Advent and features food and drink stalls, live music on stage and carriage rides through Müllrose. Individual annual programmes may vary.

For travel, the RB36 line operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahngesellschaft runs through Müllrose and connects Frankfurt (Oder) with Königs Wusterhausen. Check route information before travelling. Müllrose is also home to the Schlaubetal’s oldest mill still in production, now the Oderland Mühlenwerke, which has a mill shop; check with the mill in advance for current shop visiting options.
