More than 120 sculptures, statues and murals in public spaces give Eisenhüttenstadt a prominent focus on art. The city also has a history that can be explored through its residential complexes I to IV, a museum with several collections, and opportunities to explore the city and surrounding area by bike. When planning your trip, you can choose between the cityscape and culture, cycling, and the regional landscape.

Cityscape, Art and Local History

Residential complexes I to IV form the first planned and organized city founded in the GDR. This means the planned city itself can be the focus of a visit. Public art offers another perspective on the cityscape: more than 120 sculptures, statues and murals can be found there.

The Eisenhüttenstadt Municipal Museum has three departments. One gallery displays art from the GDR, including paintings, prints and small sculptures. There is also an authentic historic cobbler’s workshop dating from around the turn of the 20th century. The museum also displays objects and documents relating to the traditional basket-weaving craft in Fürstenberg (Oder), a district incorporated into Eisenhüttenstadt.

Fürstenberg (Oder) is a good place for a stroll, with a well-preserved old town center, a Gothic parish church and restored historic houses. This is a distinct architectural highlight within Eisenhüttenstadt. The Tourist Information team can arrange a customized city tour. A Trabant tour is another way to explore the listed urban monument; check its availability and booking conditions before your trip.

Leisure and Cycling Routes

The Insel recreation area offers a different focus from the museum and city attractions. Its extensive meadows and woodland are complemented by an indoor swimming pool, a skate park and playgrounds. There is also a small animal park with enclosures for donkeys, goats and other animals. You can therefore consider this leisure area as a separate focus alongside culture and local history.

Eisenhüttenstadt is located directly on the Oder–Neisse Cycle Route, which runs from the source of the Oder in the Czech Republic to the Baltic Sea. You can also explore the planned city by rental bike. Check availability before your trip. When planning, you can choose between the long-distance cycle route and using a bike to discover the city layout.

The nearby Schlaubetal can be reached by cycling routes along the Friedrich Wilhelm Canal. Together with the Oder landscape, it offers striking scenery and opportunities for peace and relaxation in the surrounding area. These landscapes make for a regional day-trip focus, while the museum, planned city and cultural attractions described above are distinct Eisenhüttenstadt visit themes.

Getting There and Planning Your Stay

You can reach Eisenhüttenstadt on the RE1 train and via the A12. As transport connections can change, check current services before setting off.

This distinction helps you plan your accommodation around city visits or additional regional excursions, without assuming a fixed tour itinerary.
