Schmöckwitz is surrounded by forest and water. The surrounding lakes include Lange See, Seddinsee, Krossinsee, Zeuthener See and Großer Zug. The area also features a historic village centre, bathing spots and paths through wooded areas. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around whether you are most interested in village history, time by the water or paths through the countryside.

A village centre with a medieval layout

Schmöckwitz was founded as a circular village on a peninsula in the 13th century. Despite later changes, the village layout around the church retains its medieval plan and forms a listed ensemble. The old village church is therefore not the only starting point for a visit focused on cultural history: the traditional structure of the village layout is also part of the area’s historic character.

Sunday services are still held in the old village church. Concerts are also staged there in support of aid projects. If you would like to attend a service or concert, check the dates in advance; no regular schedule is specified for the concerts.

Bathing spots and water sports

Schmöckwitz bathing spot lies on the northeastern shore of Zeuthener See and can be reached by tram, bus and car. There is a volleyball court beside the large sandy beach. Another place to go for a swim is Strandbad Schmöckwitz on the Dahme, not far from Schmöckwitzer Bridge. The two names refer to different waterfront locations, which you can distinguish when planning your visit.

Lange See is also home to Schmöckwitz Yacht Harbour, with moorings available to rent. The area thus offers bathing spots and a harbour with rental moorings as different options for spending time on the water. Which one interests you depends on whether swimming or a mooring for your own plans is your priority.

Trails with different destinations

For a walk close to the forest, the Dahme Trail leads from the centre of Alt-Schmöckwitz over Schmöckwitzer Bridge and the Dahme ford to the wooded Schmöckwitzer Werder. A marked riverside path runs from Alt-Schmöckwitz to Rauchfangswerder. These destinations can help you choose a route: the Dahme Trail leads to the Werder, while the riverside path goes as far as Rauchfangswerder. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Check connections before travelling

Tram line 68 runs between Wendenschloß and Alt-Schmöckwitz. Ferry line F21 connects Schmöckwitz with the Krampenburg peninsula every 30 minutes. The ferry’s operating days and frequency may vary from year to year, so check the current timetable. It is also a good idea to check service updates before travelling by tram. Tram, bus and car are listed as ways to reach the bathing spot.

When choosing accommodation, it may help to first decide which activities you would like to focus on: the historic village centre, a bathing spot, a walking trail or the harbour on Lange See. This makes it easier to explore Schmöckwitz through its specific named places and routes, without having to follow a fixed itinerary.
