Castle history and art in Rimpar

Grumbach Castle was first mentioned in official records in 1469. On June 25, 2000, the castle museum was inaugurated there, with the Archaeological Museum and the Bakery Museum as its two departments. This brings together a historic landmark of the town and two distinct museum themes. Rimpar’s Church of St. Peter and Paul is also home to a special work of art: Tilman Riemenschneider’s first stone sculpture. The dates mark different milestones: 1469 refers to the castle’s first mention in official records; June 25, 2000, marks the later inauguration of the museum and its two departments.

Trails and landscape

The European Cultural Trail “Gramschatzer Wald 1: Rimpar and Maidbronn” starts at Rimpar’s market square. Its southern loop leads to Maidbronn and is about 9 km long. The Two Streams Tour follows a combined hiking and cycling path from Estenfeld to Kürnach and also passes through Rimpar. The trail descriptions thus offer both a clearly named route with an approximate distance and a connection that includes two other towns.

The Kobel Trail in Rimpar adds a scenic touch: it invites visitors to enjoy the varied landscape of fruit trees, vines, hedges and meadows. The “Kobel,” inaugurated in 2016, is located on Kobersberg and is linked to a wine hiking trail. Alongside the cultural trail, the local themes also include the landscape and wine hiking.

Culture and landscape in the WĂĽrzburg travel destination

Other cultural attractions in the Würzburg travel destination are spread across different towns. In Ochsenfurt, an almost complete fortification with numerous town gates and towers encircles the historic old town. The New Town Hall dates from the 15th century; its Lanzentürmchen tower houses a unique figure and moon clock. In Röttingen, the oldest buildings in Brattenstein Castle date from the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle was home to various noble families, including the Lords of Hohenlohe. Since July 21, 1984, its courtyard has been the venue for the Röttingen FRANKENFESTSPIELE theatre festival.

Sculptures by various sculptors line the Main riverfront promenade in Veitshöchheim. There is also a large adventure playground with equipment for all ages, including a trampoline and climbing wall, as well as a barefoot path and a Kneipp footbath for wading. These examples complement the historic sites with art and leisure activities along the promenade.

Trips on the Main are also among the seasonal options in the Würzburg travel destination: the Nixe ferry in Ochsenfurt’s old town offers regular sightseeing and ferry trips from May to October. Between Veitshöchheim and Würzburg, sightseeing boats operated by the “White Fleet” run several times a day from April to October. Check the current timetable before setting off.
