Two well-known long-distance hiking trails pass right by Böbing: the König Ludwig Way from Starnberg to Füssen and the Munich Way of St. James from Munich to Bregenz. The local hiking trails also differ considerably in their length, routes and stated trail conditions. The selection ranges from short circuits to longer routes with moorland sections, pastures and old farmhouses.

Hiking routes around Böbing

The 4 km B1 hiking trail is an easy route northeast of Böbing. It passes through Leithen and Thalmühle and by Lugenauer See before returning to Böbing. In wet weather, wet patches may occur on the section between Leithen and Thalmühle.

At 5 km, the B2 circuit runs through the western districts of Böbing and along paved roads. The easy B4 is 6 km long and passes the Pestfriedhof cemetery and the districts of Ruhe, Wimpes and Pischlach before returning to Böbing. Apart from a few short sections, this trail also follows paved roads.

The B7 hiking trail to Schnalzberg, to the north, is also 6 km long. The summit offers sweeping views and has a summit cross. The outward route follows paved roads as far as the summit. On the return, the trail first crosses cattle pastures and then follows paved roads again. Despite being the same length, B4 and B7 therefore differ mainly in their destinations and routes.

The 11 km B5 Panorama Trail starts out flat, climbs later on, and then continues at an easy pace through part of the moorland. It then runs mostly along paved roads over a ridge and past old farmhouses. Wet patches may occur in the moorland section. The 9 km B6 initially follows the same route as B5, branches off before Kohlbachel, and returns to Böbing via Schöffauer Straße and the section before Röthenbach. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in their subsequent routes.

The longest of the trails described here is the 13 km B3 from Böbing to Brombergalm. It passes through meadows and cattle pastures and by old farmhouses. The route offers magnificent views and requires some stamina. Those looking for a longer trail will find a different distance here than on the 4 to 6 km routes; the information on terrain and exertion helps give an idea of the differences.

More activities and culture

The Ammer River is 4 km from Böbing. On the nearby Ammer, experienced kayakers can paddle from Saulgrub to the Ammerbrücke Böbing/Rottenbuch; an easier section runs from there to Peißenberg. Kayaking is permitted from May 1 to December 1.

St. George’s Parish Church is also a cultural landmark: its side-altar paintings were created by Martin Speer of Wildsteig and date to 1728. Böbing also has four tennis courts. For information, contact SC Böbing via Fabian Kees at +0179 1382457.
