At the Almenwelt in the Altes Bad, interactive displays offer insights into life on an alpine pasture; outside, walks along Wössner See and trails to Hochgern add to the options in Unterwössen. The Almenwelt and local history

The Almenwelt exhibition at the Altes Bad is free to visit during the Tourist Information office’s opening hours. As these hours may change, check them before your visit. Interactive displays, exhibits and information panels about the biodiversity of the alpine pasture ecosystem offer an impression of life on an alpine pasture and its relationship with nature. The exhibition also includes a virtual hay-sled ride. This means the focus is not only on individual exhibits, but also on the alpine pasture ecosystem as a whole.

The Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Unterwössen was built between 1780 and 1783 and extended from 1961 to 1963. Its architectural history thus encompasses both its construction and a later extension. Achental Tourism regularly offers guided tours of churches and chapels in Unterwössen. By the lake, on the cycle path and in the mountains

You can walk along Wössner See year-round. The outdoor swimming pool by the lake has a sunbathing lawn, a water slide and a children’s play area. This makes both a walk and a visit to an outdoor pool with specific facilities options to enjoy at the same lake.

The Achental Cycle Path follows the Tiroler Ache for a short stretch before turning into the town center of Unterwössen. Hiking routes from Unterwössen include routes to Hochgern, which is 1,744 meters high. In the surrounding area, you can climb Hochgern on foot or by mountain bike. The options differ in their focus: the cycle path highlights the short stretch along the river and the turn into the town center, while Hochgern is the mountain destination, with the specified ways of ascending. Check route conditions and access before setting out.

Gliding enthusiasts also have a specific option to explore: the German Alpine Gliding School Unterwössen offers a trial day. Check current dates and booking details with the provider before making firm plans.

The wider Traunstein district

The district of Traunstein is home to Lake Chiemsee and Lake Waginger See. The Chiemgau Alps there have more than 170 alpine pastures and peaks reaching up to 2,000 meters in elevation. The Seeoner Seen are listed in the district as a nature reserve; Lake Waginger See and Lake Tachinger See are listed as a protected landscape area. These officially designated protected areas serve to preserve biodiversity, safeguard rare habitats, and protect the natural and cultural landscape. The wider regional area thus encompasses lakes, alpine mountain ranges and different categories of protected areas.
