Hiking routes from Mühlau lead to Zellersee, alpine pastures and mountain summits. Some routes also pass waterfalls. To plan your trip, it is worth first comparing your destination and the relevant starting point: the routes differ in their named destinations and features, such as crossing streams and springs or passing an alpine pasture.

Hiking Trails and Destinations Around Mühlau

In the Hochplatte area, the “7-Flüsse-Steig” trail runs between Mühlau and Zellersee. On the route to Zellersee, you cross numerous small streams and springs. Another trail leads from Mühlau to “Schöne Aussicht” (“Beautiful View”)—giving you two different destinations to choose from.

The Nordic walking route leads from Schleching through the districts of Mühlau and Mettenham to Zellersee and onto the Achendamm. It follows a narrow, shaded path around Mühlberg. The Ramsen circular trail also offers its own viewpoint: a signposted detour leads to “Vogelschau,” with a view over the Schleching Valley.

The starting points for summit hikes are also clearly specified. The Hochplattengipfel hike begins at the Dalsenalm car park in Mühlau. The Kampenwand summit hike starts at the Dalsen hiking car park and initially heads towards Steinberg-Alm. The hike to Weitlahnerkopf begins at the Mühlau hiking car park; it passes the small “Floderer” waterfall on the way to the Vorderen and Hinteren Dalsenalmen.

Another hike leads from Mühlau via Dalsenalm to Sachrang, passing the 15-metre-high “Ochsensprung” waterfall. The 49-metre-high “Floderer” waterfall is also on this route, before it reaches the Dalsenalmen. The difference in height is clear: Floderer is listed as 49 metres high, and Ochsensprung as 15 metres.

Alpine Pastures: Walking Times, Location and Refreshments

Walking times from different starting points are given for three alpine pastures. From the Dalsen car park in Mühlau, it takes about 1¼ hours on foot to reach Vordere Dalsen-Alm. From the Mühlau car park in Schleching, it takes about 45 minutes to reach Oberauerbrunstalm; the walk from the Dalsen car park in Mühlau to Hofbauern-Alm takes about 2½ hours. When planning your timing, note the starting point specified for each route. Vordere Dalsen-Alm is at an elevation of 920 metres between Kampenwand and Weitlahnerkopf. Oberauerbrunstalm is on the southern slope of the Chiemgau Alps’ Hochplatte, at an elevation of 967 metres.

At Vordere Dalsen-Alm, hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy hearty bacon and cheese sandwiches at the Huber-Kaser on weekends. Fresh Almnussen are among the culinary specialities at Oberauerbrunstalm. Hofbauern-Alm is notable for its history, too: it was first mentioned in the mid-16th century, while the current alpine hut dates back to the 1920s. With a little luck, you may spot marmots in its pasture area.

The time of year can also shape a visit to Oberauerbrunstalm. In May, at the start of the alpine summer, stemless gentians bloom around the pasture, turning its meadows blue.

Chapel and Winter Hiking Trail

A small chapel built in 1827 stands in the Mühlau district of Schleching. The Mühlberg circular trail features the Jugendkapelle Mühlau as a point of interest. If you would like to combine a hike with a cultural stop, this offers a local point of interest alongside the alpine pasture and nature destinations.

The Schleching winter hiking trail can be reached by public transport via the Abzweigung Mühlau bus stop. Check the current timetable for your journey. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay in Mühlau, first decide which tours are most important to you, then compare the exact location of a specific property with the relevant starting point.
