Moorland, waterside paths, alpine pastures and churches with a long history give Staudach-Egerndach many different facets. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding what you would like to focus on: trails through the Filzen, a hike to an alpine pasture, cycling tours or cultural history? The destinations below differ not only in theme, but also in their starting points and access routes.

Moorland, Water and Nature Trails

The Staudach-Egerndach Filzen are designated and protected meadow-bird habitats. The Kleine Moorrundweg (Small Moor Circular Trail) runs through the Egerndacher and Staudacher Filzen, with several stops exploring the subject of moorland. The path is flat, with no significant inclines, is suitable for older people and small children, and is accessible with a pushchair. Weather conditions can affect the state of the paths, so take the weather into account when planning your visit.

A nearby moorland nature trail is a separate attraction, offering an experience of the moorland landscape over several kilometres. The embankment path along the Tiroler Ache is suitable for walking, cycling and jogging. Staudach-Egerndach is also close to the Hochgern, the Tiroler Ache and the high moor of the Egerndacher Filze. The Hochgern is 1,748 metres high.

The natural Kneipp facility in Staudach-Egerndach offers another way to spend time by the water: it is in a quiet setting and integrated into a stream. The options therefore range from longer trails through the moorland to a place whose streamside location defines the character of the facility.

Hikes to Alpine Pastures and Scenic Views

The Vorderalm–Brachtalm–Staudacher Alm circular route is a hike to alpine pastures. It starts at the Holzlagerplatz car park in Mühlwinkel and offers views of the Hochgern from its striking, rugged north face. The Staudacher Alm itself lies at an altitude of 1,150 metres. The alpine hut, built of natural stone, offers views of the Hochgern and the Zwölferspitz.

Hearty snacks are served at the Staudacher Alm. As opening times may vary by season, it is advisable to check whether it is open before visiting. This lets you plan the alpine pasture as a specific hiking destination without assuming that refreshments are available year-round.

Cycling Tours and the Planet Trail

Cycling tours also differ in their starting points and routes. The “Achen-Achter for Gravel” route starts at the bridge over the Tiroler Ache in Staudach and initially follows the cycle path along the Ache. It then continues through Egerndach and along the Staudach-Egerndacher Filze.

The MTB 31 Brachtalm mountain bike tour starts at the Holzlagerplatz in Mühlwinkl. It passes the church and follows the cycle path towards Bergen. The starting point and route description therefore already provide different guidance when choosing between these two tours.

The Planet Trail runs between Staudach-Egerndach and Marquartstein and offers insights into our solar system. It was created by students of the Gymnasium Landschulheim Marquartstein. The “Playground and Treat Trail” route follows the Achendamm, also known as the Planet Trail, to the last playground in Staudach-Egerndach.

Churches and History

The Catholic parish church of St. Andreas stands in Egerndach. It was first mentioned in a document in 1260; the present church building dates from the second half of the 15th century. An information board at the church gives visitors and local residents a brief introduction to its history.

In the area near Staudach-Egerndach, the Schnappenkirche, built in 1640, stands on the Schnappenberg in the municipality of Marquartstein, at an altitude of 1,100 metres. It belongs to the parish of Staudach-Egerndach. Hiking trails lead from Staudach through the mountain forest to the church, from where there are views across the Chiemgau and Lake Chiemsee. Hohenstein Castle is also part of the region’s history: it was built during the 10th century on a ridge of the Schlossberg.

Art and Special Places

Atelierfenster is a small exhibition space in Staudach-Egerndach, intended to promote and appreciate visual art in the Chiemgau. Visits to the studio are possible by arrangement, so please arrange your visit in advance. Together with the churches and historic sites, Atelierfenster adds a cultural focus to the area’s nature and hiking attractions.
