Friedenfels offers a clear selection for planning your walks: three circular routes are 3 km or 4 km long, and the Climate-Terrain Trail measures 10 km. Each route has its own character, from peaceful stretches and scenic views to the four-elements theme and cultural references to pond farming.
Starting points in the town centre
The Steinwaldhalle is in the centre of Friedenfels, with the Fisch adventure playground next to it. It serves as a shared reference point for the Climate-Terrain Trail and the two 4 km circular routes, which both start and finish there. The blue-marked “Adelsfriedhof” circular trail, by contrast, starts and ends at the village shop.
Circular routes by distance and theme
The 4 km “Views and Benches” circular route leads to two reading benches with beautiful views of Friedenfels; sunny stretches and peaceful spots shape the route. The Landscape Study Circular Trail around Friedenfels is also 4 km long. It follows the four elements—fire, water, air and earth—and includes a picnic spot where you can take a break. Though they are the same length, these two routes have different focuses: views and peaceful stretches on one, the four elements and picnic spot on the other. The 3 km, blue-marked “Adelsfriedhof” circular trail is a short evening walk. It follows peaceful paths and offers an unobstructed view towards the sunset. At 10 km, the Climate-Terrain Trail connects the town’s cultural sights with panoramic views. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the current trail conditions for the Climate-Terrain Trail and the route details for the three shorter routes locally.
Goldsteig: Carp motif and rock
On the second Goldsteig stage, the trail passes a gold-and-blue fish sculpture in Friedenfels. It is one of the “Fantastic Carp” sculptures and serves as an ambassador for the centuries-old pond-farming tradition in the Land of 1,000 Ponds. Haferdeckfelsen is located on the Goldsteig stage and rises above a pond.
Tirschenreuth: Fishing, history and cuisine
In the wider Tirschenreuth destination, the MuseumsQuartier is housed in a former monastery and combines the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum with six other specialist exhibitions. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see local fish in four large aquariums. The MuseumsQuartier’s regular programme includes special exhibitions, talks, readings and concerts. Check the current programme for a specific date, as individual dates may vary.
At the centre of Fischhofpark in Tirschenreuth are the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court. In culinary terms, Tirschenreuth district is best known for Zoigl, the craft beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The district is also known for carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds”.
To choose a cultural focus, it helps to distinguish between the two: the MuseumsQuartier focuses on exhibitions, fishing and fish-farming history, and aquariums; in Fischhofpark, the key points of interest are the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court.
