A 110-meter-long nature observation boardwalk over the Beckenweiher is part of the Goldsteig in Wiesenfelden. This gives you several different options when planning a trip: a longer hiking route, named nature reserves, an accessible loop around the pond, a trail exploring local history, and cross-country ski trails in winter. Choose according to the kind of outing you have in mind, as each trail has its own focus.

Goldsteig and nature reserves

The Goldsteig quality hiking trail runs for about 18 kilometers through the municipality of Wiesenfelden. It passes the “Brandmoos” and “Weiherlandschaft bei Wiesenfelden” nature reserves on the way to Wiesenfelden and crosses the 110-meter-long nature observation boardwalk over the Beckenweiher. This route brings together a specified distance and two named nature reserves. If you want to plan an outing around a longer hiking route, you can compare it with the other local trails.

Some of the Brandmoos’s most important habitats are rare transitional and quaking bogs, the only bog birch forest in the Bavarian Forest, and a species-rich hay meadow in very good condition. These specific habitat types give the nature reserve a distinct profile: in addition to bogland, it includes a bog birch forest and a hay meadow. Together with the pond landscape, the Goldsteig route highlights different natural features that may help you choose a focus for your outing.

The Kobelberg nature discovery trail offers a different focus. Children and adults can experience nature at nine stations along the trail. If you want to compare trails by the kind of exploration they offer, the Kobelberg provides a nature experience with stations, alongside the Goldsteig’s specified route distance. The nine stations give the Kobelberg a clear focus, without putting the same kind of distance information as on the Goldsteig front and center.

Loop around the pond and local history

The accessible loop around the Beckenweiher follows easy-to-walk gravel paths, is step-free, and has only minor changes in elevation. It is also suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. This describes the path surface and suitability for trip planning in specific terms. Please note that the boardwalk may be closed temporarily; check its current status before your visit.

The “Historisches Wiesenfelden” history trail runs through the village of Wiesenfelden and focuses on historic buildings and places. It complements the nature trails with a cultural and historical focus. If you would like to include the history of the village in your choice of outings, this trail offers a distinct option: it focuses on buildings and places in Wiesenfelden, not the nature reserves along the Goldsteig.

Cross-country ski trails and sledding hill in winter

The three cross-country ski trails are described as intermediate and differ mainly in length and access points. The Schiederhofer trail is 7 kilometers long, with one access point in Wiesenfelden. The intermediate Höhenberger trail is 8 kilometers long. Access points are in Wiesenfelden at the parking lot on Falkensteiner Straße and in Höhenberg near the Dirrigl inn. The intermediate connecting trail to Falkenstein offers routes of 5, 11, or 17 kilometers; in Wiesenfelden, one access point is at Neuweiher. The stated distance range is therefore 5 to 17 kilometers, while the Schiederhofer and Höhenberger trails are closer in length at 7 and 8 kilometers, respectively. Before setting out, check the municipality’s information on current trail conditions; whether the trails can be used depends on winter conditions.

The municipality also lists the sledding hill on Falkensteiner StraĂźe as a particularly suitable place for sledding. Here, too, use depends on snow conditions. Winter outings can therefore include cross-country ski trails with specified lengths and difficulty levels, as well as a sledding hill; make sure conditions are suitable before your visit.
