In Üchtelhausen, forest themes, exercise and a farm museum offer different focal points. The Üchtelhausen forest nature trail is a forest walking route about 1.5 kilometres long, with eight stations. The stations cover tree species, natural connections and forest animals, including hedgehogs, sand lizards and great spotted woodpeckers. Three forest megaphones invite visitors to listen to the sounds of the forest. The trail is suitable for pushchairs.

Forest and exercise in different formats

Another focal point is the Üchtelhausen fitness trail in Stengacher Forest. The fitness facility is two kilometres long, has 19 stations and is suitable for everyone from beginners to experienced athletes. A direct comparison puts the forest nature trail’s approximately 1.5 kilometres and eight stations alongside the fitness trail’s two kilometres and 19 stations. Those who want to focus on natural connections and forest sounds can choose the forest nature trail; those looking for station-based training will find a different focus on the fitness trail.

The farm museum and its collection

The Üchtelhausen Farm Museum has been open since 1992. One guided tour is themed around “Cooking” and offers insights into the domestic life of farming families in the village. Visits are available by request for groups and on annual activity days. Check the relevant date for your planned visit.

The collection includes horseshoes from the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648), a figure of Jesus from 1738 and flax combs from 1844. The dated objects thus span the period from the Thirty Years’ War to the 19th century. Together with the tour’s theme, they give a concrete picture of the objects and domestic life at the heart of the farm museum.

Other perspectives in the Schweinfurt destination

In the Schweinfurt destination, Brönnhof offers another connection with nature: the former military training area was included in the National Natural Heritage on 13 January 2016; the designated area covers 746 hectares. Brönnhof is a habitat for protected species such as Bechstein’s bat and the great crested newt. Ellertshäuser See, in the north of the district, offers a different landscape perspective and is used as a local recreation area.

The Franconian Wayside Shrine Centre in Egenhausen is part of the region’s cultural history. Covering around 90 square metres, it presents a modern permanent exhibition on the cultural history of wayside shrines. Its subject differs from the farm museum’s collection: here, the focus is on wayside shrines and their cultural history.

Wine hikes are another regional option: in Handthal, they lead through the vineyards to the “terroir-F-Punkt” viewpoint on Handthaler Stollberg, by a castle ruin. Groha Winery in Oberschwarzach offers wine tastings, wine experience tours and wine cellar tours. Confirm dates and booking terms before your trip.

In Sömmersdorf, the Passion Gallery displays photographs from the 1930s and traces the history of the Passion play stage from 1933 to the present day. The Passion Plays take place every five years; check specific performance dates before your trip. Alongside interests in nature and wine, the Schweinfurt destination thus offers distinct themes relating to the history of wayside shrines and Passion plays.
