Postmünster can be explored through three distinct highlights: the Rottauensee and its water sports, paths along the Rott, and architecture in the town centre. When planning your visit, it helps to distinguish between relaxing by the lake, getting active on the trails and taking a look at historic buildings. This way, you can see more than just one side of the town.

Water and the seasons at the Rottauensee

There are places to swim at the Rottauensee; swimming conditions can vary by season. The natural floodplain meadows around the lake are ideal for relaxing. Surfing and sailing are also possible on the lake, while motorised boats are not permitted. Swimming, taking a break on the floodplain meadows and water sports therefore offer different ways to enjoy the same lake.

The season also plays a role in planning a visit: when there is sufficient snow, cross-country ski trails are groomed around the Rottauensee. If you are planning to go cross-country skiing, you should therefore take snow conditions into account. This activity is explicitly dependent on sufficient snowfall.

Cycling, hiking and horse riding

Postmünster lies directly on the 87-kilometre Rottal Cycle Route. The route follows the Rott from Neumarkt-St. Veit to Neuhaus am Inn. The figure of 87 kilometres refers to the entire cycle route; its endpoints give an overview of its course. The Rottal Cycle Route is therefore a cycling highlight in its own right, alongside the local walking paths.

Walking paths for strolls, hikes and runs follow the Rott, circle the Rottauensee and cross the surrounding hilly countryside. Those who prefer designated bridleways will find them around the lake and along the Rott. The routes differ in their intended use and the landscapes they pass through: on foot, you can also explore the hills, while the bridleways run by the lake and river.

Church and chapel in the town centre

The Late Gothic parish church of St. Benedict stands in the centre of Postmünster. This impressive building dates back to the 15th century. The Hustenmutter Chapel has a different architectural style: it was built in 1748 as a Rococo rotunda with a cloverleaf-shaped floor plan. The two buildings thus offer contrasting architectural features: the Late Gothic parish church on the one hand, and the round Rococo chapel with its distinctive floor plan on the other.

Golf at the Rottauensee

West of the Rottauensee, an 18-hole golf course is set among floodplain meadows and biotopes. Those wishing to include golf in their stay will find another highlight in the area around the lake. For specific golf plans, it is advisable to check the latest operating details.

More to explore in the wider Rottal-Inn destination

Beyond Postmünster, the wider Rottal-Inn destination offers other types of attractions. Rottal Terme has more than 30 thermal-water pools with temperatures ranging from 26 to 40 °C, as well as 13 saunas and steam baths; these numbers may change during renovations. Every year, Theater an der Rott presents premieres in drama, musicals, concerts, dance, operetta and opera. It is the only theatre in Germany owned by a district. Gothic tours explore selected Gothic monuments through brochures, maps, the tour portal and the Gothic portal. These attractions are part of the wider Rottal-Inn destination, not features of Postmünster described here.
