The rooster on the village fountain in Kirchenplatz is a symbol of life in Hebertsfelden in days gone by. The fountain was created by sculptor Karl Reidel from Kumhausen. For a cultural stay, it is also worth exploring the church architecture and local history museum.

Churches, Fountains and Architectural History

The Catholic parish church of St. Emmeram is a Neo-Gothic exposed-brick building. It was built between 1855 and 1858 to plans by architect Leonhard Schmidtner. The cemetery chapel by the parish church is also Neo-Gothic; it dates from the late 19th century and has its own furnishings. The two buildings offer different points of reference for understanding Neo-Gothic architecture in the area.

In Rottenstuben stands the branch church of St. James, a small, rendered brick building dating from the mid-15th century. Its architectural features include a narrower chancel and a squat west tower; it also has its own furnishings. Hebertsfelden Hiking Trail 1, the Marterlweg, runs directly past the pilgrimage church in Rottenstuben. This connects a specific hiking theme with a look at the local church architecture.

Local History Museum and Activity Park

The local history museum in the old brickworks displays an extensive collection of agricultural machinery and equipment. Its exhibits include horse-drawn carts for various occasions and old hand-operated fire engines. The collection focuses on the technical and practical aspects of agricultural life. Visits must be arranged in advance with the municipal administration; also check the current opening arrangements before your visit.

The activity park was established at the sports field in Hebertsfelden in 2016/2017. Its purpose is to provide play opportunities for children and promote the enjoyment of physical activity among people of all ages. This aim complements the cultural and historical themes with an active element, without restricting the park to a particular age group.

More Culture in the Wider Rottal-Inn Destination

In the wider Rottal-Inn destination, the Rottal Terme offers more than 30 pleasantly warm thermal-water pools with temperatures ranging from 26 to 40°C, as well as 13 different saunas and steam baths. There is also a 105-metre-long thermal stream and health, prevention and wellness services. As the figures may change when facilities are renovated, check the latest information before making plans. The Theater an der Rott complements these regional offerings with drama, musicals, concerts, dance, operetta and opera; new productions in these genres premiere every year. It is the only district-owned theatre in Germany.

For those interested in architecture, the “Gothic Tours” in the wider Rottal-Inn destination offer a guide to selected Gothic monuments. They help locals and tourists explore these sites through brochures, maps, the tour portal and the Gothic portal. The portal provides audio guides to Gothic buildings that can be accessed on site, and also includes an online museum with information, knowledge and learning resources. Alongside Hebertsfelden’s specific churches, there are therefore other cultural topics to choose from across the wider destination.
