A small pond, spacious green areas and playgrounds contribute to the recreational appeal of Schwanstetten’s community centre. There is also the history of two memorial stones, a 2.25-kilometre fitness trail and seasonal events. You can focus your visit on the town centre, history, exercise or a specific event date.

Community Centre and Local History

The community centre is a lively meeting place for the community. Its green spaces, playgrounds and small pond give the central area its recreational appeal. In the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, the altar stands at the centre of the church interior—a distinctive architectural feature.

The two memorial stones in Mittelhembach tell a different story. They originally stood in the bed of the planned Main-Danube Canal. Before construction began, Mayor Fritz Meier arranged for them to be salvaged and campaigned for their re-erection at their present location at Nibelungenstraße–Mittelstraße in Mittelhembach. This sequence—the planned canal, the stones’ recovery before construction and their re-erection at their current location—gives them their special historical significance.

Trails and Exercise

The fitness trail is 2.25 kilometres long and is located at the end of Further Straße in Schwanstetten’s Leerstetten district. Its clearly stated length and precise location help you factor this exercise option into your stay.

The dirt-bike track has its own history: it was built in 2013 on the last weekend of August in a forest clearing between Schwand and Mittelhembach. Young people lent a hand. Alongside the measured trail, it is an example of community involvement in the area’s history.

Market and Open-Air Concert

The Walpurgis Market takes place every year on 1 May from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the market square in front of the town hall. Schwanstetten’s Summer Night adds a musical highlight: the open-air concert featuring exceptional musical talent from the region is held on a Friday at the end of July on the same market square. Both events offer a seasonal attraction; the market has a fixed date and stated times, while the Summer Night is scheduled for a Friday at the end of July. If you are planning for a particular year, check the municipality’s current event listings.

More Highlights in the Wider Roth Destination

Other places in the wider Roth destination each have their own thematic focus. In Kammerstein, the KammerSTEINPILZ trail is four kilometres long; along the route are ten mushroom nests with quiz questions and a playground. The “An der Kleinen Roth” nature trail follows the stream of the same name, is 2.3 kilometres long and has seven information stations. The stream rises east of Allersberg and gives Lake Roth its name. The routes differ in length and theme: mushroom nests and quiz questions characterise the longer trail in Kammerstein, while the shorter nature trail follows the stream and features information stations.

The 210-hectare Lake Roth lies between Roth, Hilpoltstein and Allersberg. The former Schäff iron hammer near Eckersmühlen offers another cultural highlight, with regular blacksmithing demonstrations. Check current opening and demonstration times before your visit.
