Rohrdorf combines orchards and regional fruit processing with a Baroque church dedicated to St. James, as well as trails along the Rohrdorfer Ache. This lets you choose a hotel based on what you would like to do during your stay.

Orchard landscapes and regional products

In 2018, Rohrdorf was named one of Bavaria’s 100 Places of Culinary Delight. At the same time, the village is characterized by an exceptionally high proportion of orchards and regional products made from locally processed fruit. This gives the theme of culinary enjoyment a tangible connection to the local orchard landscape and its produce.

Hiking and cycling

Rohrdorf lies in a foothills landscape with extensive forests, meadows and numerous lakes. Along the Rohrdorfer Ache, there are numerous well-maintained hiking trails away from the main traffic routes. The Samerberg, a high valley with designated nature reserves, is also near Rohrdorf.

There are also several points of reference for cycling tours: From Rohrdorf, excellent cycling routes lead to numerous lakes and along the Inn as far as neighboring Tyrol. These include the Lake Constance–Lake Königssee Cycle Route. If you are planning a cycling trip, the lakeside destinations and the route along the Inn offer different options to plan around.

St. James and other churches

The Baroque hall church of St. James the Elder stands on elevated ground near the town hall, and its position shapes the village’s appearance. The present church was built between 1769 and 1773. Its high altar dates from 1712 and depicts a seated St. James, created by the Master of Rabenden. The Marian altar, also called the “Sorrowful Altar,” was erected by the Confraternity in 1724. An altar dedicated to St. Lawrence also serves as the altar of the All Souls’ Confraternity.

A painting in the nave depicts the rediscovery of the relics of St. James the Elder in the 9th century, the beginning of the veneration of St. James in Western Europe, and the transfer of his remains to Compostela. A pilgrim cross made of Czech granite, with an information plaque, points the way to Santiago de Compostela in Rohrdorf. The municipality of Rohrdorf also includes the village of Höhenmoos, where the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul stands; it was first mentioned in documents in the 8th century.

The Amerang open-air museum offers private guided tours and programs for groups; offerings may change, and groups may need to make arrangements in advance. The moorland nature trail between Amerang and Halfing, created in 2010, offers a different perspective. It explains how the moorland landscape formed after the Ice Age, as well as the native flora and fauna.
