Prien a.Chiemsee combines a distinctive connection to the Chiemsee lakeshore with historic houses, regional art, riverside scenery and guided tours. Located directly on the Chiemsee lakeside promenade, the PRIENAVERA Erlebnisbad offers a pool and sauna area with an unobstructed view of Herrenchiemsee Palace. This opens up different options for planning your trip: culture at historic houses and collections, time in the Eichental, or guided activities focused on cycling, Kneipp treatments and culinary stops.

Historic Houses and Art

The KronastHaus acquired its present appearance in 1784 and dates back to its origins in 1598. Its façade paintings are striking, and the house’s history is shaped by the cabinetmaking trade. The KronastHaus also displays an extensive art collection, with a focus on works by Hugo Kauffmann as well as selected works by prominent Chiemsee painters.

The Prien Local History Museum is located directly on the market square in the former craftsmen’s house Beim Mayerpaul. It houses an important collection on the region’s history, art history and folk culture. The adjoining Historical Gallery of the Chiemsee Painters traces the development of the Chiemsee artists’ colony through works by Maximilian Haushofer, Karl Raupp, Josef Wopfner, Hiasl Maier-Erding and Rudolf Sieck. Since the mid-19th century, it has held an important place among European artists’ colonies. The KronastHaus, for example, focuses on crafts and its art collection, while the local history museum explores regional history, art history and folk culture.

Eichental: Riverside Scenery and Kneipp Treatments

The Eichental in Prien am Chiemsee lies directly beside the river and is a popular local recreation area with nature trails and a Kneipp pool. Its riverside setting, nature trails and Kneipp pool give the area a different focus from the historic houses and their collections. If you would like to include time outdoors alongside culture during your stay, you can make the Eichental a separate part of your exploration of the town.

Guided Tours with Local Flavours

The “Fruit & Wine” culinary tour begins with a visit to the old Prien fruit distillery, then follows part of the Fruit and Culture Trail through the Eichental. It ends with a small glass to sample. Another culinary option is the Schmankerl tour through Prien, which visits culinary stops and includes local specialities from direct-marketing producers in Prien. The tours offer different experiences: “Fruit & Wine” combines a distillery visit, a section of the trail and a tasting, while the Schmankerl tour focuses on culinary stops and specialities from direct-marketing producers.

Cycling Tours by Season and Duration

The guided “Bike and Kneipp” cycling tour takes place in May and June. It starts in Prien and follows side roads and forest tracks via Aschau and Bernau before returning to Prien. Along the way, participants try out five different Kneipp pools. If you would like to include this tour in your trip plans, check the specific dates in advance.

Another guided cycling tour runs from Prien to the Seiserhof via side roads. It covers 25 km and is designed to take three hours. The two tours can be compared based on different details: for “Bike and Kneipp,” the season, intermediate stops and Kneipp pools are specified; for the tour to the Seiserhof, the distance and duration are the main details. This makes it easy to compare the options based on whether the season and Kneipp theme, or the distance and planned duration, matter more for your plans.
