Rettenberg lies in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park at the foot of the GrĂĽnten. Here, brewing tradition meets a range of ways to spend time outdoors: you can choose from beer-themed hiking trails, an accessible loop along the Galetschbach stream, and a longer tour for experienced hikers. Minigolf, the seasonal family pool and winter activities are also among the local experiences on offer.

Beer culture and regional cuisine

Rettenberg is considered the home of Allgäu brewing tradition. The three breweries named there are Bernardibräu, Engelbräu and the Zötler private brewery. A brewery tour explains the brewing process and the history of brewing; afterwards, you can sample a freshly brewed beer. Check in advance whether tours are currently available.

Culinary events are also part of what’s on offer: Kässpatzen evenings and other events, including beer-and-cheese evenings, are held regularly. As specific dates may change, check the details before your trip. The five beer-themed hiking trails offer another way to discover local specialities. Along the trails, innkeepers and alpine lodges offer ProBiererle: a local speciality paired with a Rettenberg beer selected to complement it.

Hiking trails for different ability levels

The five beer-themed hiking trails pass through meadows and forests, with viewpoints and places to stop for refreshments along the way, where you can sample local beers and hearty specialities. The trails combine hiking with culinary stops; their availability may change. So before setting out, check which routes are currently offered.

For a shorter loop, the approximately 2.6-kilometre “Abenteuer Galetschbach” experience trail is a separate option. It follows the Galetschbach stream. The entire loop is accessible and easy to travel along by wheelchair or pushchair. A longer option is beer-themed hiking trail tour 3 from Rettenberg to Alpe Kalkhöf: this route, described as suitable for experienced hikers, is listed as taking about 3 hours and 15 minutes, covering around 8.6 kilometres and 500 metres of elevation gain. These details help you gauge the time and physical effort involved in the two trails, without suggesting that they are part of the same route.

More activities in Rettenberg

There is a minigolf course in the Kurgärtle beside the village café. The family pool at the Grünten is also right next to the village café and has a large sunbathing lawn as well as natural shade. As opening times may vary by season, check the current hours before your visit.

The Grünten archery facility has shooting ranges and a 3D course. If you’re interested, ask locally about current operating arrangements. This lets you factor the activity into your travel plans without confusing it with the hiking and swimming options.

Winter on cross-country ski trails

Rettenberg has the sunny circular Emmereiser Moos trail for cross-country skiing, as well as a small, illuminated evening trail. Each offers different conditions: one is described as a sunny loop, the other as a small trail lit for evening use. Which one is suitable for your visit also depends on snow conditions; check conditions before your planned outing.
