Betzigau can be explored through several distinct contrasts: cross-country ski trails with different route profiles, seasonally groomed paths along the Leubas, art by the stream and Notzenweiher, the “home pond” of the people of Betzigau. Sporting and cultural themes sit side by side, while the views across the landscape reach as far as the Oberallgäu.

Cross-country ski trails and paths along the Leubas

The Wolkenberg trail is 2.0 km long, moderately difficult and serves as a connecting trail from the B12 bridge to the Kempter Wald trail. The connection between the Wolkenberg trail and the Moos trail is also 2.0 km long and moderately difficult; it includes a gentle climb. The Moos trail is 10 km long, easy and runs from the Wildpoldsried sports field via Bogenried to Betzigau/Weiher. The comparison is clear: the Wolkenberg trail and the connecting trail are each 2.0 km long and moderately difficult, while the longer Moos trail is rated easy. The route choice therefore depends on length, difficulty and, for the connecting trail, the gentle climb.

The route lengths and difficulty ratings are permanent features; grooming conditions may vary, and parking conditions at the Wolkenberg trail may change. Check these details before setting out on a specific tour. The current grooming status is also relevant for the winter paths along the Leubas.

Together with the municipality of Wildpoldsried, a winter hiking trail and an energy trail are groomed along the Leubas. Each of the two trails is about 10 km long and intended for pedestrians, with or without a dog. Alongside the cross-country ski trails, this gives you two options for different walks. As they are groomed seasonally, it is worth checking their current status before setting out.

Art by the stream and Notzenweiher

Since 2004, artists have presented their works to a broad audience at KUNST AM BACH, along the stream running through the municipality of Betzigau. The art exhibition is thus tied to a specific place: the stream running through the municipality. The reed-fringed bathing pond Notzenweiher is the “home pond” of the people of Betzigau. KUNST AM BACH and Notzenweiher represent two distinct connections with water: a public art exhibition by the stream on the one hand, and the pond, with its reeds and local significance, on the other.

A chapel nearby

Near the destination is Völkkapelle, above Bachtel on the footpath from Betzigau via Heinzelberg to Stein. May devotions are held in the chapel; if you are planning a specific visit for one, check the current arrangements in advance. Brothers Roman and Manfred extensively renovated the chapel in 1997. Its location, religious connection and renovation date each offer a distinct point of interest.

Betzigau in the Oberallgäu

The wider Oberallgäu travel region offers a broader regional perspective. The Alpine foothills around Betzigau are rolling countryside with a rural character, wide meadows, forests, streams and small hidden lakes such as Notzenweiher. Oberstdorf in the Oberallgäu also offers a different focus for hiking: its hiking trails and nature trails together cover 200 kilometres. In Immenstadt-Diepolz, the Allgäuer Bergbauernmuseum documents the lives of Allgäu mountain farmers in historic buildings; it is an interactive open-air museum. These regional destinations add their own places and themes to the picture of Betzigau.
