Neuhof a.d.Zenn combines marked circular hiking trails with a historic town centre where Renaissance architecture, Margrave Baroque and a well-preserved market fortification come together. For your planning, you can choose from individual trails with stated distances, a route through the Zenn Valley, and archaeological finds on display at the town hall.

Hiking and getting around

There are around 30 kilometres of marked circular hiking trails around Neuhof an der Zenn. Two named tours can be compared directly by length: the Eule circular hiking trail is five kilometres long, while the Roter Tropfen long-distance hiking trail is six kilometres long. The Eule starts at the car park by the old sports ground and heads east towards the Silberbuck settlement. The Roter Tropfen starts at the car park on Industriestraße; the route described runs via the bypass to the Neuhof an der Zenn–Markt Erlbach state road. The difference between the two distances is one kilometre, and the tours start from different car parks.

The Zenntalweg runs through Neuhof an der Zenn. The Zenntal hiking trail passes through the Zenn Valley and over the hills and ridges of the Zenntal, as well as through the meadows, fields and forests of the municipalities of Neuhof an der Zenn, Trautskirchen and Obernzenn. This gives you different route descriptions to choose from: one focuses on the route through the town, the other on the valley, uplands and landscapes of the three municipalities.

An asphalt route for inline skating is also described between Neuhof an der Zenn and Adelsdorf. Near Neuhof, it first follows a municipal connecting road for a short stretch, then continues along the Zenntal cycle path. As the surface or route may change, it is advisable to check the current route before setting off.

Historic town centre and architecture

The historic town centre includes a former Renaissance water castle; St Thomas’s Church was built in the Margrave Baroque style. The town centre also features a well-preserved market fortification and a market square redesigned based on its historic appearance. These different elements give the townscape several cultural and historical points of interest: the castle’s history, church architecture, fortifications and the design of the market square.

These discoveries offer a different focus from the trails, with their distances and landscapes. For the hikes, the specific distance, starting point and route described remain the most tangible points of comparison.

Archaeological traces in Zennhausen

At the abandoned settlement of Zennhausen are the foundations of a chapel with a cemetery, a fortified stone house and two masonry wells. Finds from excavations at the abandoned settlement are on display at Neuhof an der Zenn town hall. If you would like to include the exhibition in your plans, check its current availability in advance.

In the wider destination of Neustadt A.D.Aisch-Bad Windsheim

The wider destination of Neustadt A.D.Aisch-Bad Windsheim also offers independent cultural and cycling themes. At the Franconian Open Air Museum in Bad Windsheim, a circular route takes you through 700 years of everyday Franconian history. The museum’s Bauhofstadel was built between 1441 and 1444; its late-medieval roof structure spans an interior of around 360 square metres without supports. The nearly 100-kilometre-long “from the Main to the Zenn” long-distance cycle route offers another regional perspective: it runs through the district of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim and connects Kitzingen with Fürth.
