Burghaslach combines routes through forests and countryside with churches, castles and cultural attractions. When planning your visit, it is worth looking at the entire market municipality: some trails and sights are in districts such as FĂĽrstenforst or Breitenlohe, while others start in the centre of Burghaslach.
Hiking Trails and Nature Trails
There are more than 90 kilometres of hiking trails in the municipality. Around Burghaslach, hills, fields, meadows and forests alternate; the Franconian landscape is ideal for hiking and cycling. Those interested in the forest will find two different attractions in FĂĽrstenforst: the approximately two-kilometre-long nature trail starts at the forest playground or FĂĽrstenforst recreation area. It provides information about the forest ecosystem, plants and animals, nature-oriented forestry, and wood as a renewable resource.
The forest adventure trail also starts at the forest playground in FĂĽrstenforst. It follows a circular route through the municipal forest and offers a wealth of information and display panels. The trails therefore have different focuses: the nature trail centres on specific topics related to the forest and wood, while the forest adventure trail combines a circular walk with information along the route. Various adventure trails in the market municipality are also presented as outings for the whole family.
For longer cycling trips, the approximately 68-kilometre Haslachtal–Reiche Ebrach long-distance cycle route runs via Scheinfeld, Burghaslach and Pommersfelden to Bamberg. The Steigerwald cross-country route connects Bamberg with Burghaslach via Hirschaid, Mühlhausen and Schlüsselfeld. There is also a well-maintained Kneipp facility near the Burghaslach dam; check its condition before visiting.
Castles, Churches and Culture
Burghaslach Castle is one of the town’s special attractions. St. Aegidius Church is also among the churches in Burghaslach recommended for a visit. St. Mauritius Parish Church was built as early as 1336. Those interested in the history of the market municipality can also explore the cultural trail: 22 steles located throughout the municipality introduce visitors to natural monuments, famous people and notable buildings, as well as the castles and churches that have shaped Burghaslach.
Another starting point in the town centre is Casteller Castle, where the water education trail begins. The moated castle in Breitenlohe is also one of the market municipality’s special attractions. Fürstenforst Castle has a draw well, but can only be viewed from the outside. In Burghaslach, the Kulturtankstelle is used mainly for cultural events organised by the Kulturtankstelle working group and for adult education courses.
Seasons and Visit Dates
The spring market takes place in Burghaslach every year on the second-to-last Sunday in April. The Christmas market is held each year on the Saturday before the second Sunday of Advent. Check the official calendar for the exact date before planning your trip. Church fairs are traditionally celebrated in the market municipality; dates vary by district and should also be checked in advance.
