Those who want to get to know Taufkirchen through its history will encounter several different themes: the Wolfschneiderhof showcases rural domestic culture, the Celtic House draws attention to archaeological finds in the Hachinger Valley, and the parish church of St. John the Baptist features Baroque art. Regular events and stage programmes complement these historic sites.

Farmhouse History and Archaeology

The Wolfschneiderhof is one of the oldest buildings in Taufkirchen. The listed house dates from the early 18th century and has served as a local history and farming museum since 1986. It presents rural domestic culture and agricultural tools. The historic building thus brings together the themes of living and working in the countryside. Recurring exhibitions also focus on archaeology and settlement history in the Hachinger Valley. Traditional events are also held regularly at the Wolfschneiderhof. Individual guided tours can be arranged with the local heritage warden; agree on a date before your visit.

The Celtic House is an authentic reconstruction of a type of Celtic house found locally. It contains documentation on archaeological excavations in the Hachinger Valley. Finds associated with the Celtic House include Bell Beaker graves, the cellar of a Roman villa rustica and the floor plans of Celtic settlement houses. The archaeological themes thus range from graves and settlement plans to the cellar of a Roman country estate.

Baroque Church and Cultural Programme

The parish church of St. John the Baptist is a late Baroque landmark of Taufkirchen. It was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1737 and 1738; its Baroque furnishings date from the first half of the 18th century. The ceiling frescoes were painted by Ignatz Schilling. A tombstone for Hilprand of the Taufkircher family is considered one of the few surviving tomb slabs of its era in Upper Bavaria.

Two venues offer additional cultural highlights alongside the museum and church art. The Kultur & Kongress Zentrum has served as a cultural and theatre venue for more than 35 years; check its current programme before travelling. The Ritter-Hilprand-Hof programme includes music, theatre, art and cabaret. Individual performances and dates may change.

Hachinger Valley and Cycling Tours

The Hachinger Valley landscape conservation area covers territory in Taufkirchen and Oberhaching. The cycling tours featured for the Hachinger Valley are approximately 25 to 60 kilometres long. They run mostly along paved, low-traffic side roads, forest tracks and field paths. The route length provides a useful point of comparison when choosing between tours. The stated distances may be revised; also check current route conditions before setting out.

One section of the children’s audio tour along the Hachinger Bach runs through the old village as far as Taufkirchen. Check whether the audio tour is available before your trip. The Hachinger-Bach app offers photos, hiking information and audio content about the stream; check both its availability and its content before using it. Together with the cycling tours, this regional offering provides another way to explore the Hachinger Valley.
