Feldkirchen can be explored during a stay by considering several specific questions: Which S-Bahn direction suits your plans? Are you interested in the traditions surrounding Emmeram Chapel, or would you like to include exercise and culture? These points of focus help you discover the town according to your own interests. Choosing a holiday apartment also involves planning your journey; the S2 and local destinations provide concrete starting points.
Travel by S2
Feldkirchen station is served by S-Bahn line S2 towards Erding. From the station, the S2 also travels towards the city centre and Marienplatz. This gives you two specific destinations to plan for: Erding and Marienplatz. Check the current timetable before travelling, as transport services may change.
Emmeram Chapel: tradition and architectural history
Emmeram Chapel stands at the end of Emeranstraße, near the Feldkirchen town sign in the direction of Heimstetten. Local tradition in Feldkirchen links the town’s history and name to Saint Emmeram, Bishop of Regensburg. He is said to have died at a crossroads in a lonely field; according to tradition, a small church was later built on this spot, where today’s chapel now stands.
The small Neo-Gothic brick church that still stands today was solemnly consecrated on the saint’s feast day, 22 September 1843. The terms describe different features: Neo-Gothic refers to the revival of Gothic forms, while brick refers to the building material. This makes it possible to distinguish the local tradition about Emmeram’s death from the specific details about the building style and consecration.
Exercise at Wiesenweg
If you would rather focus on exercise than local history, the calisthenics facility on Wiesenweg offers another point of interest. It is located at Jahnstraße/Pfarrer-Axenböck-Straße, where you can train for strength and endurance free of charge. This provides a specific, active option for your stay alongside the historical account. The two points of focus appeal to different interests: training on the one hand, and exploring Feldkirchen’s traditions on the other.
Heimstettener See: a shared recreational area
Heimstettener See is located within the municipalities of Kirchheim, Aschheim and Feldkirchen and is a recreational area shared across municipal boundaries. Its total area is 236,000 m²: 110,000 m² are water and 126,000 m² are land. The sunbathing lawn is listed as covering 69,000 m². The developed shoreline is approximately 1,600 metres long. The area figures show the proportions of water and land; the shoreline length is explicitly approximate. This gives you a sense of the lake’s overall size.
Plan cultural events
Tickets for cultural events are available online in advance, as well as directly from the municipal library and at the information desk in the town hall. You can therefore choose between advance online sales and two places to buy tickets locally. If an event is the reason for your trip, check the latest event information and ticket sales in advance; ticket arrangements may change.
