Fossils at their original discovery site, a Tertiary forest with unusual vegetation, and a village activity area with walking paths offer different perspectives on Oberbergkirchen. For planning your visit, geological discoveries, walks, and the sights in the village can be considered separately.
Fossils and Earth History in Aubenham
The Aubenham Tertiary World is located at the former discovery site and brings together fossils with information about the finds, the climate, and the landscape of that time. Nine sections explore Aubenham as it was nine million years ago; the exhibition also displays numerous finds. Over the years, their number has grown to more than 1,200. The first display case contains original marl slabs with fossil leaf impressions.
The exhibition presents geology, while the outdoor area is dedicated to botany. There are activities available for visits by school classes or kindergarten groups. The Aubenham Tertiary World ranks 66th on Bavaria’s list of the 100 most beautiful geotopes. This lets you explore Aubenham through its finds, landscape, and plant life as different points of interest.
Walks and Green Spaces
The Aubenham Tertiary Forest invites you to walk among vegetation that is unusual in Central Europe today. It also offers views across the Tertiary hills in the northern part of the Mühldorf am Inn district. Information panels explain how the Tertiary plant world differs from today’s Central European vegetation. The path combines outdoor exercise with an engaging look at changes in the landscape.
The Village Activity Area also offers a chance to explore Oberbergkirchen on foot: six play and activity stations are connected by walking paths. There is also a two-kilometre circular route through public green spaces. You can explore the village on foot and in nature along this route.
Church and Local History
The parish church of St. Bartholomew is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. It was partly redesigned during an extensive renovation in 1938; the altars were restored to their original dark-brown early Baroque finish. Gilded reliefs are located on the outer sides of the side altar. A church guide is available in the church or can be requested from the parish office. The Brother Konrad Chapel in Oberbergkirchen can be seen from far across the Isen Valley.

Groups can learn about Misthilger Farm on a guided tour; advance registration is required. Misthilger Apiary specialises in beekeeping and sheep farming.
