Leidersbach brings together traces of prehistoric times, the local history of clothing production and a variety of walking routes. When choosing accommodation, it can help to first decide what you are most interested in: Altenburg and its history, cultural trails or outdoor activity on designated routes. The options also differ in their starting points and conditions; one particular restriction is especially important for the Robber Trail.
Altenburg: Prehistoric Traces
The Altenburg hill is split equally between the districts of Leidersbach/Ebersbach and Sulzbach/Soden. People left traces on Altenburg as early as the Michelsberg period, around 5,000 years ago. The marked Ebersbach loop leads into the prehistory of the valley below the prehistoric circular rampart on Altenburg. It offers a distinct way to explore this historical subject.
Another named site is the Altenburg Celtic House: motion sensors can illuminate the exhibits in the entrance area. Check the current access conditions before your visit.
Tailoring History and Cultural Trail
Leidersbach was the first town in the Spessart where, from the 1870s onward, residents worked from home sewing clothes for Aschaffenburg clothing factories and later went into clothing manufacturing themselves. This development continues to shape the townscape today. Alongside Altenburg’s prehistoric associations, the history of work also tells the story of the town’s development.
The cultural trail “Two Loops Through the Suit Canyon” begins with a loop at Marienplatz. It leads to Ebersbach and back to Leidersbach. The second loop passes through the higher-lying districts in the Suit Canyon. For orientation, use the described starting and finishing points and note the different routes: one loop leads to Ebersbach and back, while the other passes through higher-lying districts.
Robber Trail and Audio Stations
At four audio stations, the Leidersbach Robber Trail tells the story of the playful little tailor. The stations use QR codes; to access them, you need a smartphone, a QR code scanner and an internet connection. The trail starts and ends in RoĂźbach. The Robber Trail also includes a 60-metre-long marble run below the recreation area, with curves, spirals and sound features.
Bear an important restriction in mind when choosing your route: the Robber Trail is suitable for use only with a sport stroller. If you are travelling with a stroller, consider this condition before deciding to take the trail.
More Trails and Outdoor Activities
Leidersbach has three Nordic walking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. They start and finish at Hofwiese in Leidersbach. Length and difficulty give you two specific criteria for comparing the routes. These differences can help you choose without treating the three trails as a single, uniform loop.
The dirt-bike park in Ebersbach offers a different activity. The course can be ridden with a suitable mountain bike or BMX bike. This means that Leidersbach offers everything from trails with historical themes and Nordic walking routes to a course for suitable bicycles. When planning your stay, you can combine these different activities with the history of tailoring and the area’s prehistoric associations.
