Waldaschaff brings together several highlights for a discovery trip: water activities, beach volleyball, trails through deciduous forests and historic sites. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether water, sports, hiking or local history will shape your stay. The wider Main-Spessart destination also offers a regional perspective on nature, hiking and culture.

Water and sports

The Waldaschaff Water Adventure Trail, Kauppensee lake and the Aschaff invite you to experiment with water. There is a water pump and small pools to dam along the trail. Another activity is available at the beach volleyball court at the “Am Knückel” recreation area: it is open at all times and welcomes people of all ages to play. The two activities have different focuses: at the water, it is all about experimenting; at the court, it is about beach volleyball.

Hiking and current trail notices

Three quality trails have been designated for hiking in the deciduous forest near Waldaschaff: Spessart 1, Spessart 2 and KurfĂĽrstenweg. Several Nordic walking circular routes in Waldaschaff are connected to routes in neighbouring communities. The Waldaschaff Cultural Trail leads to the Burg Wahlmich stop and is currently reported as impassable following a forest fire. The Archaeological Spessart Project currently reports several trails in the Waldaschaff area closed following a forest fire. Check current conditions before setting out.

Historic traces

Two periods stand side by side in Waldaschaff’s history: the Wahlmich archaeological site, also known as Weilerburg, was probably built in the 13th century. The Triftdamm dam in the Autenbach valley was constructed between 1733 and 1750 by the forestry administration of the Electorate of Mainz. The historical perspective thus stretches from a presumed medieval origin to a precisely defined construction period in the 18th century.

Main-Spessart as a regional setting

In the wider Main-Spessart destination, vineyards, water and forests combine to create an appealing holiday region. In Spessart Nature Park, hiking options range from short walks to hikes lasting several days. The Main Hiking Trail offers a regional benchmark: it is around 500 kilometres long, with just under 100 kilometres of it running through Main-Spessart district and connecting Karlstadt, GemĂĽnden a.Main, Lohr a.Main, Rothenfels and Marktheidenfeld.

Culture and crafts are also part of the regional picture. At the Homburg Paper Mill Museum, production facilities from the 19th and 20th centuries have been completely and authentically preserved, along with the paper-making family’s living quarters and a demonstration workshop. A fifth-generation hand papermaking workshop still produces fine mould-made paper there today. In the wider Main-Spessart destination, the historic fortified church of Aschfeld adds another cultural and historical highlight: the fortified refuge dates from the 15th century, and parts of the fortifications are now used as museum rooms. The “A Touch of the Good Old Days” collection displays old defensive weapons as well as rural life and work.
