In Fuchstal, local history, religious buildings and nature can be combined with a visit to a market. The specific attractions are spread across Asch, Leeder and Seestall; they also include the protected Weldener Weiher pond chain and the Forest and Ponds Tour. When planning, it is worth bearing in mind the differences: the markets have named dates, the pilgrimage chapel is open occasionally, and the tour has a designated starting point.

Chapels, Church and Marian Column

The Maria im Stock pilgrimage chapel in Asch was built by Freyberg in 1703. It is open occasionally; check locally before visiting to find out whether it will be open. This means planning a chapel visit differs from the building’s history, which is clearly dated to 1703.

The nave and choir of the Catholic parish church of the Annunciation of Mary in Leeder were rebuilt from 1739 onward; the church received its first furnishings between 1742 and 1752. In the village center, the stone Marian column stands at the junction leading to Kirchberg. Its depiction of the Immaculate Mary dates from 1889 and is probably the fifth in a succession of earlier wooden statues. At the southern edge of the village, there is also the St. Ulrich wayside chapel, with an oversized painting of Saint Ulrich by Johann Baptist Baader.

Memorials in Seestall

At the western entrance to Seestall, Canon Johannes Schrott had a monument erected in 1900 in honor of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. Another memorial site lies east of Seestall on the banks of the Lech: a memorial stone erected in 1950 commemorates the Seestall subcamp of Kaufering concentration camp. The prisoners from the Seestall camp who died by 1945 are buried at this site. The two places represent different aspects of local history; their locations and dedications help distinguish them.

Markets and Tour Planning

The Leeder markets continue a tradition whose origins date back to the 17th century. The spring market takes place on the first Sunday in May, and the autumn market on the second Sunday in October. Both are held on HauptstraĂźe in Leeder. Check the current dates before you travel if you would like to plan your stay around a market visit.

The Forest and Ponds Tour begins at the sports grounds between Asch and Leeder, follows the Via Claudia cycle path northward, and leads into the district of Asch. If you plan to take the tour, use this starting point as your reference and check the signs and trail conditions locally. Further into the surrounding Landsberg am Lech region, the route is mostly flat, passing ponds and following shaded paths through the largest contiguous forest area in the district of Landsberg am Lech.

Pond Landscape and Snack Garden

The Weldener Weiher pond chain is a protected landscape and was created for fish farming around 300 years ago. Its valley, with mixed forests and green spaces, offers opportunities for peaceful relaxation.

Another distinctive landscape feature is the Asch snack garden: in March 2023, more than 130 edible wild plants, trees, shrubs and berry plants were planted on two adjoining triangular plots.

Coordinate Dates and Interests

When choosing your travel dates, treat market visits and chapel opening times differently: the markets take place on specific Sundays in May and October, while the pilgrimage chapel is open occasionally. If you also plan to take the Forest and Ponds Tour, bear in mind its starting point between Asch and Leeder, and check the signs and local conditions. This lets you fit fixed market dates, a possible chapel visit and the tour into your plans without treating these different time and location details as if they were the same.
