Olching can be explored through a range of highlights: peaceful paths in the Amper floodplains, birdwatching, activities by the water and a varied cultural scene. When planning your stay, you can choose between nature, activities and history—or give these themes different weight according to your interests.
Amper floodplains, bird park and lake
The Amper floodplains between Esting, Olching and Geiselbullach form a valuable recreational area. Alluvial forests and wet meadows shape the landscape; small paths away from the roads, numerous benches and gently sloping riverbanks offer opportunities for walks and relaxation. Both exercise and breaks by the water are therefore natural themes for a stay in Olching.
A roughly 2.5-kilometre fitness trail with twelve stations and pieces of equipment runs along the Amper through the Olching alluvial forest. It offers a different focus from a walk through the floodplains: instead of simply following the path, you can incorporate the stations and equipment into your loop. The stated length is a guide to the route, not an indication of how long it will take.
Olching Bird Park is located in the Amper floodplains on a site of almost 20,000 square metres. Its aviaries, pavilions, ponds and open enclosures are home to around 500 birds from all parts of the world. This makes it a distinct nature attraction alongside the paths and riverbanks. Check the seasonal opening hours before your visit.
Olching Lake also combines scenery and leisure: it is a bathing lake visited by numerous swimmers in summer, and its water surface covers around 14 hectares. Swimming takes place specifically during the summer season. This gives you a choice of different activities—a walk in the floodplains, a visit to the bird park or time by the lake.
Cycling and other activities
The Ammer-Amper Cycle Route passes through Olching. It runs either via Emmering to FĂĽrstenfeldbruck or on to Dachau. These directions offer two different options for route planning; they do not specify a particular distance or cycling time within Olching.
For golf, Golfclub Olching has an 18-hole championship course and a short-game area. Both facilities were completely renovated and modernised in 2012/2013. If you’re considering a game of minigolf, Olching has two courses: Olchinger Minigolf Sport Klub e.V. at Feursstraße 91 and Minigolf-Park am Olchinger See at Ulmenweg 6. Check whether the minigolf courses are currently open to visitors before you go.
Another park is GrĂĽnanger in the Schwaigfeld district. Its facilities include trees, sports fields, playgrounds, a sledding hill and a stream. Children are allowed to play in the stream. In summer, the events area is used for activities including an open-air event and a running event. The park thus combines play and exercise facilities with summer events, which do not take place year-round.
Culture, history and events
The Kulturwerkstatt am Olchinger Mühlbach, or KOM for short, is run by the city. It hosts cultural events and also serves as a meeting place for all ages and a gathering place for clubs and initiatives. A 2025 city announcement states that Olching holds more than 25 of its own cultural events there each year; the individual programmes vary. If you’re visiting Olching for a particular cultural offering, check the specific dates.
The town’s architectural history also offers clearly dated landmarks. The new Church of St Peter and Paul in Olching was consecrated on 22 September 1901. Geiselbullach Castle, with its park and St Nepomuk Chapel, was built by Johann Adam Geisler in 1726. These two facts point to different milestones in local history: the consecration of the church and the construction of the castle and its associated grounds.
The Olching Volksfest is held annually. It begins on the first Friday of the Whitsun school holidays and lasts ten days. The extensive programme at the central fairground includes numerous rides, fairground attractions and culinary specialities. If the festival is the reason for your trip, plan around the specific event dates; individual programme items may change.
More to explore in the wider FĂĽrstenfeldbruck destination
The wider Fürstenfeldbruck destination offers additional nature and cultural attractions. A signposted circular trail through the Haspelmoor starts at Haspelmoor railway station. Furthmühle preserves grain-milling and sawmill machinery in its original, working condition. The Fürstenfeldbruck Museum is housed in the former monastery brewery and explores, among other topics, the work of the “white monks” of the Cistercian order. On the Fürstenfeld monastery grounds, the Abbey Church of the Assumption of Mary is considered one of the country’s most magnificent Baroque churches. These examples are part of the wider Fürstenfeldbruck destination, not of Olching’s attractions.
