When choosing Gröbenzell as a place to stay, you can combine visits to local cultural sites, exercise in the Bürgerpark and the S-Bahn connection to Munich. A longer cycling route also passes through the town. The options have different focuses—from individual memorial sites to a multi-stage route.

History and Culture in Gröbenzell

The Stolperstein for Kurt Schroeter is on Bahnhofstraße, a few metres from the station’s north exit. A bridge in Gröbenzell is mistakenly known colloquially as the “Russenbrücke” (“Russian Bridge”). It was built in 1915/1916 by French prisoners of war; its Art Nouveau design was created by a French officer and architect who was also a prisoner of war. The colloquial name and the bridge’s history should not be confused: the bridge’s origins are French.

The restored Alte Schule in the town centre is currently an inn. Check locally to confirm this use before your visit. The Rudolf Steiner School’s concert hall is at Spechtweg 1 and has 350 seats. If you are planning a visit, check the current programme and event conditions before you go. The Stations of the Cross in St. Johann Baptist Church comprise 14 stations made of bronze and aluminium.

Art and Exercise in the Bürgerpark

The artworks by Gröbenzell sculptor Hannes L. Götz can be seen year-round in Gröbenzell’s Bürgerpark. A circuit of the Trimm.Dich.Pfad in the same park is about 1.9 km long. Outdoor art and a clearly defined exercise circuit offer different ways to include the park in your stay.

The playground at the Ascherbach covers 15,400 m²; there are water-play features by the stream. As playground features may change, check its current condition before your visit.

A Local Circuit or a Longer Cycling Route?

Opened in spring 2021, the Räuber-Kneißl cycle route is divided into four stages and runs for a total of 110 kilometres through municipalities in the WestAllianz München. The route also passes through Gröbenzell. This offers a different scale from the approximately 1.9 km circuit in the Bürgerpark: one is a multi-municipality stage route, while the other is a single circuit.

Gröbenzell as a Starting Point

From Gröbenzell, Munich’s Marienplatz can be reached by S-Bahn in about 25 minutes. Actual journey time depends on the connection and travel date; check the timetable for your travel date. When choosing where to stay, you can weigh up whether to focus on local attractions or add a visit to Munich.
