There are several ways to explore Petershausen: along the Glonn, at the field monument in Kollbach designed as a landscape dragon, or on the “Dachau Oxen Trail” cycle route. There are seven hiking trails around the town, between 8 and 13 kilometres long, as well as a forest nature trail about 200 metres long. This range offers different options for planning: a single local attraction, a shorter nature trail or a longer hike.

The Glonn and the Field Monument in Kollbach

The Glonn runs through Petershausen for 5.6 kilometres. The field monument in Kollbach stands on the southern edge of the Glonn Valley, west of the village and by the former sports ground. Its earth sculpture, about 50 metres long, is shaped like a landscape dragon. From the dragon’s head, you can look out over the Glonn Valley. The site brings together a striking design and a view across the landscape. If you are interested in outdoor art, the monument’s form, location and outlook are its defining features.

Wedding Grove and Sound Stone

The wedding grove lies east of Obermarbach. Residents can plant a fruit tree there to mark special occasions such as weddings and baptisms. These occasions give the grove its community connection and set it apart from an ordinary place for a stroll. There is also a sound stone nearby, measuring about 1.5 square metres. Its vibrations can be heard, felt and seen by drumming on it. While the field monument focuses on form and views, the sound stone invites visitors to experience a detail in several different ways.

Hiking Trails around Petershausen

Seven varied hiking trails, between 8 and 13 kilometres long, run around Petershausen. The forest nature trail is much shorter, at about 200 metres. It lies east of Petershausen, above the “Über der Glonn” residential area, and was created by the Petershausen branch of the Bund Naturschutz. There is a choice of trails of different lengths; the kilometre figures provide a first point of comparison. Before setting out, check the details of the route you are considering before choosing your trail.

The landmarks also distinguish the trails around Petershausen. These include the wedding site near Obermarbach, Jaudusplatz on Kreuzberg and Sollerner Friedensplatz. These three sites are notable points passed by all eight trails around Petershausen. The wedding site near Obermarbach is a landmark; the wedding grove east of Obermarbach is a separate place with a different name.

Cycling the Dachau Oxen Trail

The 42-kilometre “Dachau Oxen Trail” cycle route follows the tracks of oxen along the Zeitlbach and the Glonn Valley. It starts in Tödtenried, passes sights in Altomünster, Markt Indersdorf and Petershausen, and ends in Hohenkammer. Petershausen is therefore one stop along a route that extends beyond the municipality. The 42 kilometres refer to the entire cycle route; they should not be confused with the lengths of the hiking trails around Petershausen. Check local route information before setting out.
