The “Lifeline Maisach” is an adventure trail about 2.5 kilometres long between Bergkirchen and Günding. The “Räuber Kneißl Cycling Route” offers a different scale: its circular route covers about 110 kilometres and has four sections, but can also be ridden in shorter stages. For a stay connected to Günding, you can choose between a riverside trail and a longer cycling route. Other features include the branch church of St. Vitus, the Maisach river landscape and further aspects of local history.

Adventure Trail and Riverside Landscape

Along the “Lifeline Maisach” there are eleven information stations and interactive stations for children. They divide the route into individual points where you can pause your outing and then continue. The trail connects Bergkirchen and Günding along the river; at about 2.5 kilometres, it is the shorter of the two routes mentioned here.

At SV Günding, outdoor exercise equipment is available to visitors of different ages. There is also a balancing area and a barefoot path. So, as well as information and interactive stations, visitors who choose this route will find opportunities to exercise. The Maisach stretch of the “Lifeline Maisach” is also home to a beaver.

Cycling in Stages

The “Räuber Kneißl Cycling Route” offers different options for planning your time and distance than the short adventure trail. The circular route is about 110 kilometres long and divided into four sections, making shorter stages possible. The route is marked with sights and e-bike charging stations. “Kneißl rest stops” have bicycle repair equipment, and there are places to stop for refreshments in the municipalities.

The main factor in choosing between them is the distance you want to cover: the “Lifeline Maisach” is an adventure trail about 2.5 kilometres long, while the cycling route can be divided into sections of different lengths. The rest stops and places to stop for refreshments mentioned above are part of the cycling route; they are not additional stations on the adventure trail. This makes it possible to distinguish between the two options without combining them into a single tour.

St. Vitus and the History of Günding

The Catholic branch church of St. Vitus is located at St.-Vitus-Straße 8 and is listed as a historic monument in the Bavarian monument list; the entries are current as of 24 July 2026. The monument entry describes an early Gothic chancel-tower church dating from around 1300. Medieval and early modern archaeological remains are also recorded beneath the church area. This site thus brings together a medieval architectural monument and evidence of several historical periods.

Günding’s local history also includes its power station, which generated electricity using hydropower. This describes a former function of the power station and complements the architectural history of St. Vitus with another historical aspect. When choosing a theme, you can therefore distinguish between church architecture, archaeological remains and the history of electricity generation.

Shopping and Regional Culture

The Maisingerhof farm shop sells raw milk, eggs, cheese, pasta and bread. This is a specific food offering alongside the trails and cultural topics. The range includes dairy products, eggs, pasta and bread; it does not include additional offerings such as tastings or events.

In the wider destination of Bergkirchen, the parish church of St. John the Baptist offers another architectural highlight. Johann Michael Fischer rebuilt it as a Baroque basilica from 1731 to 1734, on the foundations of two earlier churches. In front of Bergkirchen town hall, the bronze sculpture “Girl with Book” stands on a stone bench.

Bergkirchen’s annual cultural programme also includes theatre, concerts and art exhibitions; it has been compiled since 2003. The individual offerings vary from year to year. These cultural attractions belong to the wider destination of Bergkirchen and should be distinguished from what Günding itself has to offer. Taken together, the information allows you to plan separately: a visit to Günding’s trails and architectural history, or an additional look at Bergkirchen’s cultural offerings.
