Eggersberg is an important point of reference for hikers in several ways: it is an official stop on the Gläserner Steig and a village that the return route of the Osser Trail passes through. This brings different kinds of tours into focus—a stage with distances between stops and a challenging circular hike. There is also a Kneipp pool on the edge of the forest and the Stojlbaun Chapel, with its local tradition.

Hiking trails: a stage and a circular hike

Eggersberg is an official stop on the first stage of the Gläserner Steig, which is 17.3 km long in total. From Silbersbach, it is 1.6 km, or about 15 minutes, to Eggersberg; Lohberg is a further 1.9 km away. One section of the Gläserner Steig runs via Oberlohberg and Eggersberg through Silbersbach to Berghäusl.

Another option is the challenging Osser Trail: this 9.2 km circular hike starts at the Osser car park in Oberlohberg and leads to the Großer Osser. The return route passes through the Osserwald via the “Alter Stierweg” ecology trail and Eggersberg. The distances refer to different tours: 17.3 km is the length of the first stage, while 9.2 km is the length of the circular hike.

Other local features

The Kneipp pool in Eggersberg is right on the Gläserner Steig, in an idyllic spot on the edge of the forest. The annual memorial services of the Edelweiß marksmen’s club are held at the Stojlbaun Chapel in Eggersberg. Alongside the hiking trails, visitors can therefore enjoy a Kneipp pool in a natural setting and attend a recurring religious service—two distinctive local features.

On-call bus and travel planning

The on-call bus on route 914 runs year-round via Sommerau, Schwarzenbach, Eggersberg, Lam, Lambach, Rittsteig and Neukirchen b. Hl. Blut. The service is not accessible. Check the latest transport information before travelling.

Lohberg as part of the wider destination

The Bayerwald Animal Park is another highlight in the wider destination of Lohberg. It is home to around 400 animals from 100 species and is open daily throughout the year. An easy-to-walk circular path passes by the animals; along the way, visitors can learn about their way of life, as well as species conservation, breeding and research.

The Kleine Arbersee train runs daily from May to the end of October from the Bayerwald Animal Park in Lohberghütte to the Kleine Arbersee in the nature reserve. The lake is at an elevation of 912 metres. As the service runs seasonally, check local information when planning your trip. The Huber Weiher natural swimming area is also located in the centre of Lohberg. During the summer months, it offers free swimming in a natural setting; visitors are advised to check local conditions before going.

Hiking and cycling are also among Lohberg’s attractions. Hiking options include eight trails, three themed trails and four ridge trails; the availability of individual routes may vary seasonally. A feeder trail to the Goldsteig leads from the Hohenbogen via the Osser and Lohberg town centre directly to the Kleiner Arber. The Lamer Winkel-Arber cycle route also passes through Lohberg.

Behind the Lohberg village hall are 22 trees from the Celtic tree-sign calendar. Each tree has an information board that visitors can use to find their associated tree based on their birthday. An annual event in Lohberg’s calendar is the patronal feast of St. Walburga Parish Church, celebrated on 1 May with a festive church service followed by a market.
